I agree, the 'feel' of driving isnt as good as it is in NFS but Whiplash is
released under Interplay which also makes Descent. As I understand it
Whiplash is the same game as 'Fatal Racing' in the UK but it also
has modem/network support which Fatal Racing doesnt. If it uses the
same network engine than Descent that it should be playable over the
internet using Kali. (ftp.axxis.com /pub/kali) which means you could race
7 other humans over the internet. That has MY interest!

Just got the full version this weekend, and yes it is definitely NOT a simulator,
but it is great fun to play with, when you just want to have fun, and it supports
up to 16 real drivers at once over a network (haven't acutally tried it yet).
One word, don't even think about getting this game if you don't have at least a
P100.  I tried it first on a dx4 100 (16megs ram), and with just car texture,
and road texture on in svga you could count the number of seconds between the
frame changes. To make it playable, I had to turn it to vga, with all off
but car texture, and track texture. Boy was I glad when I got home to my p133,
and it ran perfectly.

Tell me more about Whiplash - on your P133 in SVGA mode, how do the graphics compare to NFS?  ARe
the 640x480?  How would you rate the replayability - do you think you'll get bored with it
quickly?  I bought destruction derby and I'm basically bored with it already.

I have a DX2-80 and play it in VGA mode with half the detail turned on, it
plays at a fair speed with only 2 or 8 cars on the screen, but turn it up to
16 cars and there is a big slowdown.  NFS is a better simulation and has
better graphics but the tracks arent as fun as they are in Whiplash.
Playability is excellent, you just have to choose a car that works with with
your driving style(I personally like the Mission car). Its like the racing
mode of Destruction Derby where you can run others off the road and
damage their engine. So either you have smoke or fire in yer face as your
putting along at a slower speed when the damage level is high. It supports
IPX network so it should be playable over internet using Kali (the company
that wrote the network code also wrote the network code for Descent 1 and 2)
