Lockups in NR2003

by Broed » Thu, 12 Jun 2003 11:42:52

Looking for some help.  I have recently run into a problem with my
system and NR2003.  The game locks up on me at random times.  Screen
freezes even though I can still hear the sounds of the game(me
crashing into wall).  I recently upgraded to an ATI Radeon 9700 Pro,
but did a complete re-install as part of the install of this card.
Had no problems ar first, but now it has reared its ugly head.  My
system specs:

ASUS A7N8X motherboard
AMD 2700+
Audigy Platinum
ATI Radeon 9700 Pro
512 MB Corsair Ram

I usually only race online.  Heat does not appear to be an issue.
About 45 deg C after running game.  I would appreciate any help.

Normally, this kind of problem is caused by the graphics card locking up
- hence the sound keeps playing.  You could try reducing g/fx levels to
see if the lockups go away when the card is worked less.

try turning down your agp to 4x if your runningat 8x, this i belive can be
done under the smartgart tab on the properties page for your card.

another reason i will never buy an ATI product. shouldnt have to do these
kind of things.

Ask DGF if he ever solved his Nvidia lockups with N2k2.  I know I thought
I did, but they came back after some time had passed.  These days all the
hardware companies seem to have almost working products..the trouble is, we
as sim-racers don't rate very high when making a card work properly comes
into play.  The Quakers and Halflifers and Unrealists always get first
priority.

I had a similar sounding problem with a 9700 Pro.  As instructed by my
supplier I upped the AGP voltage a notch in my BIOS and all is now
well :)

I can not, however, remember the values I changed from and to :(
