I'm sorry, do you expect them to prep a driver to compete in F1 in less
than 6 weeks?  And do you think the teams just go along with this sort
of publicity stunt?  I think they have other considerations than making
us in the States feel good...

Go ahead and be shamed.  I prefer not be so nationalistic in my
thinking...

I'm all for cheering on your countrymen, but the fact is that there are no
Americans who seem ready or able to step into F1 anytime soon.  And I'd be
firmly against any artificial means of getting a Yank in there just to wave
the flag a bit.  Until someone comes along who's good enough to make it I'll
be quite happy cheering on the best drivers and teams regardless of where
they're from.

Hey wait.... Juan Montoya and his family are now living in the US.  Does
that count? :-)

According to Speedvision, Coca-Cola is looking to sponsor Benetton or
Jordan.
-Personally, I think it's a shame that with the USGP coming up, they won't back
an American F1 driver (or at least an F3/F3000 driver).  I mean, if a US driver
can't get US sponsor ship, then life must really revolve around NASCAR.

LoL...I love the responses I'm getting to the original post.

-Well, am I correct in saying it's better to have a quality American F1
driver....Rather than an Americanized Pedro Diniz?

I agree.  Nationality is about as unimportant as race is.  Who cares?
Just bring it on trackside & see who's the best!  That's what it's all
about.

I really doubt if anyone in the Americas outside of the US would really call
themselves "American".

Now there's a sad picture- some Brit sitting at home in front of the telly,
slathering at the mouth over some Senator from North Carolina.  I suppose
that I, in turn, could make snide remarks about Mayor Livingstone of London
or Tony Blair, but that would be equally pathetic.  Worry about your own
leaders, and let the people of North Carolina worry about theirs.

In any event, keep this bullshit out of ras.  If you want to vent your
frustrations, go slag GP3 or F12K or something.

I wouldn't care what the man did, if he'd been talking about the US -
US citizens can decide for themselves whether they approve of that. But
he was speaking on issues that affect the UK (eg the UN, GM food,
International Criminal Court, NMD), so I have a right to my opinion
And you have a right to think I'm a fool.

Why? If Blair came on your telly and made remarks about the US,
wouldn't you want your say? And as far as I'm concerned, anyone who
wants to is free to make remarks about our politicians - no point in
being insular. (I can just see Bruce rushing in to say, "well, Great
Britain *has* to be insular, doesn't it? <g>)

See my above point re what he was actually saying...

Yes, I agree this is the wrong place for political argument, and I
apologise for that. I should have been in rasf1...

Mr. Proud American, most intelligent people are interested in
international
politics. OTOH, really patriotic guys probably don't even know the
governor of the state next to theirs, do they? ;)
