Well why isnt this possible on GPL. I know that this view didnt exist in 1967.
But is it possible on GPL? That would be awsome!!!! Now I have these
Nurburgring camera views looks like it has a few helicopter shots. But I spose
its like VERY hard to do one helicopter shot around a whole track. Right? No to
mention look tacky like at monza trough the curva grande. to the right. where
theres isnt any thing but those bushes. Well anyways is that possible.

if you can edit the cam files, you can create any view you like.....

It can be done (with editors) in GP2 also. It does add a lot to the
game. But as pointed out the tracks will always appear to be in
"nomansland". I guess that's why it's unlikely to see this feature
directly implemented in a product. It would generate complaints that
"the helicopter view is poorly implemented".

TOCA 1 managed it with no trouble.

The helicopter was the best part (the only good part really) of Official F1.
That wasn't exactly a racing view, more like a demo feature, but it didn't
show nomansland, in fact it was very well done.

Funny you should mention that - I was looking through the GPL code
months ago trying to work out why the mouse pointer kept flickering and
I got random crashes (turned out to be crappy drivers for my 3dfx card).
Anyway, noticed the following in the strings section of my disassembler:

0018E82A: Pit Lane
0018E83C: In Car
0018E84A: Nose
0018E854: Gearbox
0018E864: Chase
0018E870: Zeppelin
0018E882: On Car
0018E890: Roll Bar
0018E8A2: Front Susp. Rear Susp.
0018E8D0: Unknown

See that Zeppelin view..... :)

Now, if someone can work out how to switch it on....

As an aside, I also noticed that there may have been plans to
incorporate weather effects - see the following, which looks pretty much
like a weather report section if you ask me... (apologies if it reflows
horribly...)

0018E626: %1 feet       %1 meters       Altitude:       Track Record:
0018E688: %1 in. of Hg Falling
0018E6B2: %1 kPa Falling
0018E6D0: %1 in. of Hg Rising   %1 kPa Rising

0018DF96: Time Remaining:
0018DFC4: Status:
0018DFD4: Current Conditions
0018E036: Sunny Sky
0018E050: Cloudy Sky
0018E068: Overcast Sky
0018E082: Rising
0018E090: Falling
0018E0A0: North
0018E0AC: South
0018E0B8: East
0018E0C2: West  Northeast       Southeast       Southwest
Northwest       Practice 1
0018E132: Provisional Grid
0018E154: Official Standings    Air Temp:
0018E192: Track Temp:   Windspeed:
0018E1C0: Wind Direction:       Humidity:       Barometer:

Steve, who's trying desperately to get in under 11 minutes at the Ring! <sigh>
