It would still be another month till it makes its way to West Australia
(which is close to the end of the world) so I caved and downloaded the
warez.
Now before I go on I have bought and paid for this game already I just
couldn't wait for it. When I look at the boxes of papyrus games on my shelf,
Nascar 1 and 2, Indycar 2 I cant help but feel that because I paid for those
products the company was able to afford to create GPL so by paying for GPL I
am hopefully contributing to the next great sim they produce.
Everything about the sim is great Its all been said before. The Ferrari
screams. The cars are easier to manage in and through the corners but they
seam to have a lot more power than in the demo so are harder to control
coming out of the corners. You have to be very gentle on the power in every
gear and you do have to ease off during gear change.
Now the good news . I set up a multi player game on my LAN. What we have
here is basically a dedicated server. The host of the game can set up the
race to one of the 6 formats and then set practice to anything up to 2
hours. Once this is done the clients can join at will for the entire
practice session the fastest time of the practice is your qualifying time.
Once the practice is over there is a 30 second break and then the race start
automatically. The host does not have to enter the practice session or the
race or control the proceedings at all.
What this means is that all you have to do is get your local ISP to take
down one of their Quake servers for the night and run GPL instead. All they
have to do is set up the race set practice for 1 or 2 hours and then walk
away.
