Problems with Cart Racing/ICR II

Gentlemen (and Ladies):

Today I purchased Cart Racing, previously known as ICR II, but I've
had all sorts of problems with it.  Because of my system, I loaded the
dos version and I've had problems with the steering where I have to
drop approximately 100 mph just to go around the turns at Michigan
without hitting the wall, and without even playing around with any
settings.  Also, and more importantly, I can't set the controls
(brake, accelerator, etc) without the mouse becomes the default
option.

I've gone to the homepage and downloaded the patches as I have version
1.0.0, but they don't seem to work, as after I installed each of them,
the game still started as version 1.0.0.

Finally, I even tried the win 95 version but the colours get all
screwed up as the blue sky turns red, amongst other problems....

Any help would be greatly appreciated....

You need to disable your mouse (use "rem" command in autoexec.bat before the mouse.exe
(or whatever line loads your mouse). Then go into ICR2 and select your controller. Once
you do this you can reload your mouse driver when you next boot.

You can also remove the mouse driver in DOS, by typing "mouseoff" in the DOS
C:\ prompt. If that doesn' t work, you might have to type it inside the DOS
directory or your mouse program directory.

From the DOS prompt b/4 running the game type, "mouse off" This will turn your
mouse driver off and allow you to choose controls in the game. You only have to
do this when changing controls not every time you run the program. Hope it
helps.

My goodness, dave, all that in one day -- you've been busy!  And, perhaps just
a tad impatient?

Can't help you with the mouse problem, it never did that to me,,,don't think I
even knew using the mouse was an option for controls.  Sounds kinda wierd.  I
wonder why Papy did that?

As to Michigan, yes, the setup that comes with the sim has MAJOR understeer
problems there.  May I suggest turning damage off, and get out there and
PRACTICE, and work on your set-up.  Change one thing at a time, go out and run
20-30 laps, see how it is.If itmade things worse, put that setting back like it
was, try something else.  If your change made handling better, try going a
little farther in the same direction, and run more laps.  Etc., etc., etc.
Check the set-up section of the manual for tips.

It might not be a question of only settings.  You might want to try lifting off
the throttle just a bit going into turns one and three.

This is a racing sim, it's not an arcade game.  Don't expect to drop a few
quarters and get your initials on the top scores list.  I got my copy last
Feb., and I can now run with the leaders at most tracks -- with opponent's
strength on, oh gee, around 85% or so...  :o)

As for the Win95 version, don't bother -- take the advice of those who answered
your mouse question, run the DOS version, and practice, practice, practice.

I'm not sure about the dos version, but the Rendition version is already
fully patched in the Cart release.  So I'd guess the dos version is as
well.
another option is to copy the controls.cfg file from N2(if you have it)
and the calib.val file.  Copy those two files from N2 into your CR folder
and
your off and running.
