NASCAR 2

I have NASCAR2 installed on a WIN98 P200/MMX system. Everytime it
starts, it freezes and I have to Control/Alt/Delete, close the program
and try a second time. Then it works fine.

Any suggestions or patches, that anyone is aware of.....and has anyone
experienced this before?

A reply by e-mail would be appreciated.

I have the same setup (Mystiqe 4MB and Monster 3D) and have to do the same
thing each time. I'm running the DOS version, 3dfx grand national version.
I've tried all sorts of things with the properties of the batch files and
whatnot, but nothing changes. It freezes at:

DOS/4GW Professional Protected Mode Run-time  Version 2.01a
Copyright (c) Tenberry Software, Inc. 1996
Copyright (c) 1994-1996  Papyrus Design Group, Inc.  All rights reserved.
Version 1.03(1)
Pentium-class machine.
Running from D: drive

after the second attempt to run it, the above appears along with the
following

UniVBE driver not present
Initializing Glide
Opening screen
Initializing texture cache
Creating s***
Digital Sound
Port 220  IRQ 5  DMA 1
Confirmed with SB16 8 ST
531264 Conventional  75399120 Normal  75399120 All  75399120 Largest
Double Buffering

So, it stops the first time at the UniVBE driver detection. I would try
loading a UniVBE driver, but I plan on getting NASCAR1999 soon, so why
bother. The other thing that happens is after I play N2, when I shut down or
restart the machine, it hangs and I must c-a-d and end task on Vshwin to get
the machine to shut down. But the game works fine, otherwise. Somewhere,
there's some conflict, but in a week or two, I'll be playing N99.

Make sure you have the correct sound card configuration in the n2 sound
setup program.

I used to play Nascar 2 on a P166 with a Matrox Mystique 4MB and a Diamond
Monster 4 MB without any troubles. Besides, I never had any problems with
the Mystique, and I own some 30 games...

The problem is caused by your anti virus program running in the background.  I
have the same problem and have found that it was the McAfee Vshield program
causing NASCAR2 to hang when loading and exiting the game.  Here is how to fix
it.
Look next to your clock display and find the Vshield icon.  Right click on that
icon, then select disable.  Start and run N2.  When finished with game and back
in windows; be sure to right click on the Vshield icon and select enable.  This
will turn the anti virus program back on.  When you hit c-a-d and end task on
Vshwin; you are shutting down the Vshield program.

Thank you all...especially jolt.......your McAfee Vshield shutdown
suggestion works.......tried it and problem was gone.
