Pull down on gearstick to shift up a gear?

I think I just mentioned this earlier today....

My friend says pull down to shift up as that is which way the g-forces are
pulling you, and vice-versa.
(personally I drive gpl the opposite)

Ok I have an old Thrustmaster T2. I'd like to supplement it
with a FF wheel but it must have a proper sequential or gated
gearstick since I hate paddles and don't drive F1 cars all that
much. Unfortunately all the action is wheels is paddles these days.

Is the ACTlabs the only choice? They have a cool gate box soon.

Also a friend says that you should move the T2 gearstick up
to shift up but I prefer to pull down to shift up. I do the
push up/up/up to move gears down quickly for a corner.

What is it in real life? Don't Indycar pilotes have the same
sequential system?

Well think of it this way.  On most manual transmission cars/trucks, which
direction to you move the gear shifter to get into first?  Forward.  So,
when I set up my shifter,  I set it up so I am pushing forward to get into
1st from 2nd.  On my 4 speed truck, I pulled the shifter back to get into
4th.  For me, it just one less thing my brain has to convert,  It's more
natural this way. There is nothing like running down a long straight and
shifting the wrong direction.

Hehe, we all associate things in our own way. How do you think when you go
from  3rd to 2nd? ;o)

I prefer to have my upshift(or upshit:) by pulling back.  I do know that
Micheal Andertti pulls back to upshift and pushes forward to downshift.  On the
other hand.  On my Acura TL, to upshift you have to push up, and down shift
piush down.  I guess it is for the idiots of th world.  Just making is easier
for them to shift.  UPSHIFT=PUSH UP
DOWNSHIFT=PULL DOWN

Stupid.

I must be the only one who does it the other way,  I had mine set to shift up
when pushing up, and shift down when pulling down.  It made sense to me.  I've
never DRIVEN any indycar...<g>
I guess I'm an idiot. :-)

Pull down on gearstick to shift up a gear?

Well I am a memeber of the same group as you.  I push forward to go up a
gear and pull back to downshift.  Even the air logic shifter I am working
on for my Solo ll is that way.  the reasoning on the Champ cars using pull
back for up shift and push forward for downshift is simple when they are
accelerating its easier to pull back to upshift and when you are braking
its easier to push forward.  Actualy Indy Cars IRL still use H Pattern
shifters due to Tony George seems to feel we need that.

If you are interested, I found something on the net that allows you to
swich this to Upshift=Pull, Downshift-Push.
