Frame Rates and Memory

I'm not getting the frame rates I think I need to be getting (<20).
I have a Gateway Pentium 120, STB Trio 64V+2MB PCI with 16MB RAM.
I'm running through windows 95 (Machine was installed with 95 and
config.sys and auto exec file do not have the drivers and I can't figure
how to run through DOS). From what I've read this shouldn't effect frame
rate that much. I would just assume to run in Win 95 anyway
Could tweaking the memory settings help?  When looking at the memory
properties of N2, Win 95 has every set to auto (total conventional,
initial, EMS, XMS).  Its kind of a drag racing with only minimal
features turned on.  Any suggestions welcome.

I have the exact same PC.  I set my min/max swap file settings (under
virtual memory) to 32mb/32mb and it seemed to stop some of the disk
access that was causing pauses in display.  Haven't tried any pif memory
settings - I'm convinced that another 16mb ram and a verite 3D card are
going to be a necessity.

Also, don't quote me, but you might try overclocking the cpu to 133mhz.
The Gateway motherboard doc is pretty clear on the dip switch settings
and the case/cooling fan configuration does a good job of cooling the
cpu.  Just a hint/thought.  Not that I overclocked mine, Gateway/Intel!

Upgrade to 32 meg.  Win'95 loves to eat the Meg'Nuggets in your PC.
