Need help with Daytona

I am trying to use a Gravis GamePad with Daytona and it doesn't register
with the game. The pad is installed when I check it in the control panel,
but it is unhighlightable in the stupid game.

Has anyone else had this trouble?

The only trouble i had with daytona, was burning it, wasnt very flammable
