I take Turn 1 at about 128-130 MPH, depending on how good my entry was. I
find that braking gently while turning in works a lot better than mashing
the brake pedal to the floor.
Turn 2 is taken at 145-150 MPH. Most people enter this turn too soon and
have to slow down. If you wait just a tick before you would naturally want
to turn in, you can get a better run off the corner into the short chute
and can hold your speeds up as well. There just seems to be a groove there.
Turn 3 is the one where I make up a lot of time on Hawaii, most people
brake way too early for it. If you let off at about the 2nd brake marker,
you can enter the turn with just the tiniest bit of braking to bring the
speed down. At the apex, I'm usually somewhere between 130-133 MPH.
Gradually squeeze the gas pedal down coming off the corner to keep the car
from pushing out into the wall along the front stretch.
Most of your speed from Pocono comes from the line. I learned a lot about
the track in a league race where I brushed the wall in the Tunnel turn and
dinged the RF fender. The car had a terrible push after that and I spent
the next 50 laps trying different lines to get the speed back up. I started
the race running 163-164 and ended up running almost the same speeds even
with the aero damage. Went back after the race and was able to run 165-166
with the same setup. With a few minor changes, I now run 166+ MPH laps
with a full tank.
Follow the URL in my sig, then take the link to Practice Times. You'll find
a replay there of a 166.950 lap done with a full tank. With a copy of
EDITRPY, you can paste it on top of one of your own laps and figure out
where you're losing your speed.
