TSW Clamping?

I'm having trouble keeping my TSW wheel clamped to my desk. The bolt keeps
stripping and now the hole in the clamp has gotten bigger. Has anyone
devised a better way to clamp their TSW to the desk?

Don't bolt it down so tight in the first place. I find that you don't
need to***it all the way down in order to clamp it in place. I had
my wheel for a year and a half I never had any problems.

Thanks Phil. Unfortunately I seem to saw away with my wheel, so I need it
clamped pretty tight. Try doing a fast lap at the 'Ring and have your wheel
slide around on your desk, or come off.   lol

I have'nt had a problem with mine, is the clamp on the TSW the same as the
TSW2? I have the 2 and it works like a charm.

My suggestion to you guys is to at least consult with Thomas, these things
do have a lifetime warranty after all.

Geez - how hard are you torquing that thing down?  I can't imagine stripping
the bolt...

Richard,
I had a problem with my clamp on my TSW (one of the originals... it's about
7years old now). About a year ago the clamp on my controller started
slipping out of the bracket on the wheel housing no matter how tight I
cranked it on. I was sending my wheel in to get refurbished and add the
split axis feature anyway so I added a note to the package asking them to
look into why the clamp was slipping. When I got it back they had shaved two
edges off the side of the "L" bracket that slots into the wheel housing and
they bent the angle on the "L" bracket to slightly greater than 90
degrees... it hasn't slipped once since I got it back about 4 months ago.
I'd also like to state for the record that the good people at TSW gave me
service and support above and beyond the call even when UPS's***up
wasn't their fault... they dealt with UPS for me and chewed them out more
than once. All I had to do was accept my package from a sheepish delivery
guy. I recommend TSW to anyone who asks about a controller (as long as force
feedback isn't a priority) based on customer service alone... the quality of
the controller is a huge bonus.
Regards,
Robin

Mine would never hold from day 1. I bolted it to a
piece if 1/2 inch plywood about 2-3 inches wider on
each side. Then I use "Vise-Grip C Clamps" when I
race.

Well there ya go. That's an idea I never thought of. Today I bought a tap and
die set. So I tapped a bigger hole in the clamp bar. Now instead of using a 1/4
" bolt, I use a 5/16" bolt. It's bigger and holds real good now.  :-)

My wheel is 1-1/2 years old and my clamp is rock solid. FWIW I don't
remove my wheel very often, and I have my computer setup on an old
kitchen table with a tabletop that is about an inch thick. You'll
probably have to drill yours out, re-tap it, and get a bigger bolt.
