Help needed with installing NASCAR CD

by Nicholas Joh » Mon, 15 Jan 1996 04:00:00

I just got the fabled NASCAR Racing...CDROM version and am having odd trouble
installing it.  I'm running Win95 on a 486 66, 16 meg RAM, Diamond Stealth 24 1 meg
video.  When I install the game all seems fine till I try to run it...sound install
goes well.

Whether I run it in a window or in MSDOS mode, the game immediately crashes the
computer, and when it reboots, for some reason the CD driver (a 2X
Matsushita/Panasonic) has been uninstalled and I have to reinstall it in Win 95 before
it functions again.

I can't say I have a clue what's happening here.

Any help/suggestions are welcome, preferably by e-mail since I don't get to the
newsgroups very often.

Thanks

Nick J.

After I upgraded to Windows 95 I had a similar problem with the
computer*** at Nascar's title screen, but it only happened if
sound was enabled (I have an AWE32).  I solved the problem by deleting
all the old drivers from my config files and relying on the Win95
versions.

The game now runs well in full screen mode (I never did get it running
with sound in DOS mode), but still suffers from the problem Microsoft
describe in their game compatibilty list - namely it crashes the
computer if it is the first MSDOS program to use the soundcard after a
reboot, but is fine if it is the second or later.

Has anyone else met this problem or have a solution?  If nothing more
elegant perhaps a small program which could be briefly called from a
batch file to use the soundcard before starting Nascar?
