VROC on LAN

Hello,

I've just started to race on VROC after endless hours of practice in GPL.
And whan an experience! The problem was that i was using a modem at home,
and I didn't want to occupy the phone the whole evening (my flatmates are
a bit angry:) so I put my Voodoo2 card in my PC at work (PII450) instead.

But when I was about to race on VROC and when I was trying to join a race,
VROC said "Race no longer avaliable". I can't host either, because there
is no TCP/IP option in the multiplayer menu (both when hosting and joining).
I also have this problem when trying to race one of my fellow workers (after
worktime i might add:)

I am connected to the net by retrieving a TCP/IP address from a DHCP server,
and there is no need to specify any DNS servers. I am also logged on a NT
server, but i guess that is irrelevant, since I can use Netscape even if
I'm not logged on the NT server. There is also some sort of firewall, but
my system admin. said that the firewall doesn't work on TCP/IP yet.

I have of course downloaded gping.exe and core.ini, and also tried the
alternate_ip_address_lookup (or something) = 1 option with no result

I hope to see you on VROC soon..

Additional question : The textures in GPL is totally messed up, but i have
read something about different glide versions to correct this problem, so
i hope i can find a solution myself. But if anyone want to tell me right
away, please do. My system is PII450, ATI rage pro, VoodooII (with drivers
right of the CD), Win98.

Thanks

>Hello,

skip to the important part..

The Firewall is more than likely prohibiting traffic back to you. It
supports HTTP, FTP, and email (as does mine) and that accounts for
your Netscape working.

If your behind a firewall, to get GPL to work you would need to know :

1. What ports does GPL use to get and retrieve data and how, i.e. TCP
or UDP

2. How to configure the firewall to allow use of these ports.

Possibly 1.1 will address this, as modem sharing has created a GREAT
need for software that can either work out of the box in a firewall
environment or at least supply the specs so it can be configured. As
Sierra/Dynamix, ID, and some others have games that work fine (
Tribes, Quake II ) without any re-configuring I would *think* its not
that big of a deal to incorporate it into all internet games/sims.

Just FYI. I use Sygate on a home Win98 10MBPS homenetwork and it works
fantastically, except I can't run GPL online... 8-(. Does ANYONE have
a Sygate config file that works, or know what ports GPL uses so I can
try to configure it?

Thanks..

How would you KNOW if you're behind a firewall.  I didn't THINK we were, but my
GPL didn't work with DHCP either.  It DID work with a static IP, though.  Does
that give any clues?
