Thrustmaster T2 -- Can anybody answer this ???

by Portla » Tue, 14 Oct 1997 04:00:00

I had a T2 for a long time, and loved it.  I connected it through a
SoundBlaster 16 PnP card with no troubles.

Here's the kicker.  I bought a NEW T2 because my first one was broken
by a kid.  When I plugged it in, Win95 does not recognize it!!!

I did nothing to my system since unplugging the first one, but the new
one doesn't want to be recognized.

On Thrustmaster's web site, it says the the Gameport Joystick resource
"input/output" range should be 0201-0201.  Mine is 0200-0207, and is
not configurable.

Thrustmaster says it's a problem with my port on the sound card (Never
mind that all my other sticks work fine...and that my old T2 worked
too.)

Creative Lab's says it is a problem with the T2.

Before I blow $30 to $40 on a Thrustmaster Gameport Card, does anybody
have any ideas on why my new T2 is pickier than the old one, and how I
might get it to work?

Thanks for any suggestions, Curt
ps: If I do buy a game card ... how do I disable the SoundBlaster
PnP's joystick port?  I'm lost, eh?

I never liked the new format with the T-2 wheel. If you want to, try
using your old wheels converter, or if your using a converter, then take it
off. When you have the JoyPort installed, and you go to control panel,
System, Device Manager Tab,  Sound, Video , Game Cards, and the joy driver
you have install, highlight it, and click on properties. Then go to
resources tab, unclick automatic config, and put it the correct config. For
more info, please email me.

Are you using the adapter or not? The newer ones don't need the adapter.
Also, does the wheel work in dos?

Try going to Thrustmasters site  www.thrustmaster.com and downloading a
copy of their pro panel utility. This helped fix my problem. I also use the
gamecard. But it will work with the soundcard also.

Well, I'll be darned if it didn't work -- as soon as I removed the
adapter.  I could have sworn that I saw a reference on Thrustmaster's
web site that said this adapter should be used for Win95 and DOS all
of the time.  When I checked their site again (I swear they changed
this ...) they said that the newer T2's don't need the adapter, and
that the adapter was not in the box.  Well, my wheel WAS manufactured
after their change, and there was an adapter in the box.

I can't beleive I racked my brain over this.  ;(   When I saw on TM's
site that the T2's require a gameport with an input/output range of
0201-0201, and realized that my SoundBlaster was 0200-0207 (not
configurable) -- I thought that they were trying to pump up sales of
their gamecards by making their products incompatible with other
gameport products.  I'm very glad that this is not the case.

Thanks again for the tip!!!!

Just glad I could help. I thought that was going to be the problem...
There is also a pro utility on Thrustmaster's site for setting up your
wheel in Win95. D/L it, it's much better thatn Win95's setup...

Yes i can, the port address 0200-0207 is the problem, as for the adapter
or not please check this comprehensive step by step procedure to correctly
do it.

First remove from your win95 configuration the gameport. THEN :

read and follow this guide (with image as example) sorry to say
it's "stupid proof". BUT IT WORKS.

at:

http://infoweb.magi.com/~ericcote/win95.html

There is no reason why it can`t work, try it you won`t be
disapointed.

Take care, Eric

I did download Thrustmaster's ProPanel utility.  Now that I've got my
T2 working ... this makes it much easier to configure, and calibrate.

Thanks again!
