The same holds true if you've altered the layout.dat file to change some of
the paintkit's graphics.

Kyle,

This is documented in the readme file that comes with the patch.  If
you've altered your atlanta.txt file you have to restore the original
before applying the patch.

I got that error message as well, and the worst part, is I read the
readme file, saw that they mentioned needing the original txt file,
and still proceeded with patch.  I guess I was e***d about the
patch.

I received the same error message and it wasn't because I had
changed any files. I know this because...I have not changed any
files. I don't even play the game that much. I've havn't ran at
Atlanta yet so I have never seen the AI pitting bug.

You most likely got the wrong version of the patch.  The C***e.dat was
modified (I believe the 4-bit Rendition textures were changed) since the
initial release, so there are two versions of the patch.

Gotta re-install the original track files.

You may have downloaded the wrong version. I did, and it kept getting
stuck a Ncharllte.dat. When I got the right patch it went through fine.

I did, per the Readme file, download the correct file. I have ver
3.2.2.0 and d/l'ed naspat0, this file would not work even after a
fresh install of N2. I also d/l the patch for ver 3.2.2.1
and this file worked! Now I have the "pot bug":( Guess I'll go to
Sears Point and see if the "pot bug" can improve my lap times.<g>
