Online Racing won't be the same until we get something like TEN back.

The state of online racing in NASCAR 3 stinks now!!!

I'm running a cable modem and find it as good a TEN. Besides, I like paying
$0.00 as apposed to $10 something a month.

Id rather pay, the rankings alone are worth the price

I'm running a cable modem too, and the connections are not the problem. It's finding a
quality race. The only good races I've had so far, most guys crashed the first lap..
then 4-5 of us would actually race and try not to get wrecked by lappers and kids
frustrated that they couldn't win.

I really miss the large fields of quality drivers in TEN races. I'll gladly pay a few
bucks to avoid the idiots and get back to quality, large field racing.

Just a note, there have been test servers with names like Testserver2 running on
Won.net with the TEN style countdown timers. Looks like they have the server software
and are testing it. No announcements yet, but since they are not hiding the testing of
this, I'd say we should see organized, server run racing soon.

I can't wait.

Ranking are nothing more then a collection of data.  In GPL, with the
exported results files we can get a whole lot of data for rankings if
someone would write a stand alone or even an add-in application to read
the data and sort it for a rankings system.  I don't know yet if N3 has
the same export option or not,  If it does, you can get a lot from
that.  I don't know what's in the replay but you may be able to get info
from that also.  All that's needed is that application to work with
dedicated servers.  When there's X number of files in the export
directory, the server will send the data out to a dedicated rankings
server for everyone to see.

There's a ranking system for you!

Look TEN is gone...Papyrus had nothing to do with it.  Frankly i could care
less if they ever come back.  The few times i raced i didnt think it was woth
the money i payed for it to race maybe 3 times a month.  Im glad its now free
and soon enough well have a good idea of who is...and who isnt a good driver
and we can set up races with just people we know are good, clean drivers like
with GPL.

I think that the folks who race N3 currently on WON or through straight
TCP/IP or IPX, who have had no connection problems, who have had numerous
clean races, who enjoy the fact that this is all at no extra cost and can be
quite fun and competitive, we too would like to see the return of TEN.

Need you ask why?

It's not paying that brought quality racing on TEN. Pick races were just
as bad. I would run away from them like plague. League races will just
as good as on TEN, once leagues are setup. Almost noboby are setting
leagues. What are you waiting for? People with some web site designing
talent should snap to it. Also, I some old online organisations will
eventually organise events (I'm thinking of OSCAR for example).

Quality online racing CAN be free.

League racing isn't the whole answer. I ran in one league on TEN with a
GREAT group of guys. The problem is life gets very busy with family and work
and its often hard to schedule several fixed time races per week. I ran a
lot of good pickup races on TEN. Putting a skill on a race, not necessarily
high, would weed out most of the problems, and allow some good racing.
Sometimes there would be a bad racer causing problems, but not that often.
Of course, staying away from Dega helps too!

I would like to be able to jump in a good race at any time, but without
rankings, fixed names and being able to see who is in a race, its tough.
I've had some good races, but probably half of my races I've been crashed
out on the first lap.

Just my thoughts....

Is it just me or does it seem like nobody races, all they do is run hot laps
for practice?
