What happened, why did I just waste my money on it. LFS1 was so much better.
Frame rates are horrible, AI is horrible, they either wreck you or you run
laps around them.  Can I get my money back?

odd... what type of system do you have? Framerates on mine are actually
better than S1. As for the AI, I find it's pretty much the same as S1.
Remember, they learn as they go, so it may take a while before they can
keep up to you.

you might want to check out the live for speed forums at
http://forum.rscnet.org/ as there seems to be quite a few people around
who can help out. Also, the developers frequently post there.

I gotta say I'm really loving the upgrade! The physics are so much
better and I quite enjoy the new variety of vehicles & tracks

Sounds like there's something wrong. I've had no frame rate problems at
1280x1024 x4fsaa/x8aniso with a 2.1GHz AMD/1Gb/x800Pro, which is a similar
spec to yours.

no problem running any other sim, GTR,NR2003, LFS1...

1gig ram
6800GT 256 meg video

I'm in like only getting 10-15fps avg. don't understand it.

Same here, at the start 10 fps, then 15. Almost same computer as you have
too. I haven't even got AA of Af on, so it looks like gp2 ;)
Update: after throwing away the cfg-file a few times, i've got now 45 fps
(on whatever resolution, still strange).
Better now, ***still not perfect..

You didn't indicate your system, but I get at least 50fps (close to a full
field) at 1280x1024x32.  This is with a middling 2.4 GHZ and a 5700 video
card.

As far as the AI, I don't expect them to be that good, but remember, they
learn the track as they go.  It might not be a bad idea to run them for 50
or so laps on the track before deciding how good they are or aren't.

But still, LFS is primarily an online game, and that's where it shows its
worth.

Get that frame problem of yours sorted and run the AI a while and I think
you'll have a different opinion of the game.

I have found the AI to be surprisingly good especially considering the
primarily online focus. They seem to be sufficiently challenging but
give *just* enough room. They don't roll over and die like some other
sims and they will come back at you if you give them a chance. I'd like
to see them defend their line on entry a bit more but other than that I
am impressed.

I believe this is a significant step for LFS, I wasn't really a fan of
S1. There is a good feeling of grip and sensation of speed. I have been
driving the lower powered cars and having a blast offline against the AI

Cheers

> I have found the AI to be surprisingly good

After initial doubts I'm more impressed. Like all AI, they have their good
moments and their bad. But the aggressiveness does seem to ease off as
they learn, and I've found myself sandwiched three-wide into a corner on
one occasion. One car eased off, the other took the lead, neither hit me.
It was quite an impressive manoeuvre, and as time goes on I'm seeing more
of this kind of "intelligent" action.

It's called "alpha" for a reason, you know ;-)

Took it for a spin this morning (a couple of laps at the japanese
tri-oval in the F3 car), and so far I really like what I have
seen. The sensation of speed really is very good with the wind noise
and all the visual cues. I find the braking***pit moving a bit
overdone, but then again I guess there is a slider for this effect
buried in the menues somewhere.

You gotta love the ability to tweak the settings without having to
leave the track; much better than anything I've seen so far in
commercial releases (ISI, are you listening? ;-)

Will try LFS2 online tonight, I expect nothing but fun!

cheers, uwe

Drop into my server-- Octopus Overlords League if you feel so inclined.  :)

I'll be running Formula cars at the Aston GP track.  Qualification is set
for 20 minutes, and race for one hour.  Guest can add 2 AIs if there's no
one else on the track.  :)

Server will be up all day and night, Eastern, US.

Running S2 licensed.

They are very good, but seem to have one obvious blind spot: try overtaking
them to the outside. Unless you have somewhere paved to go that's not
actually part of the racing surface, you're done for.

At Blackwood, e.g., if you get a run to the outside on the front straight
they will simply mash you into the wall before the braking zone at T1.

What is fairly annoying in this respect is they'll happily push you off
track, but will stand their ground when the situation is reversed, even if
the overlap is minimal. Can't even begin to count the number of times I've
been clipped this way.

With "mirrors off" I am running 1280x960 and 60 fps with

AMD 1.74GHz
ATI 8500 128Mb
512Mb ram

But, I haven't upgraded to an S2 license, just running Alpha 0.5 with S1
license.
