between screens was horribly
slow, back to the 30.82's. Weird.

With a P4 platform....you have an Intel Northbridge chipset....(or the
equivalent of). Many settings for Intel chipsets are not "optimized" by
default on the Nv properties tabs. Your installation of the new drivers
would have reset all those to their defaults! Perhaps you don't remember
setting them properly at one time? I don't know.....but the new Nv drivers
wouldn't cause your system to just slow to a crawl......drivers don't do
that. Incorrect settings or incompatible settings will.

I wouldn't trust drivers that had hacked .inf files
to make them work.

Whenever anyone talks about the "new drivers" and doesn't give a version number, the post
is worthless. nvidia drivers are updated frequently.

After installing 40.41 drivers under Windows 2000, I can't access Nvidia
properties in display settings. error is
An error occuured while Windows was working with the Control Panel file
C:\WINNT\System32\desk.cpl
To confirm this is a driver problem, I installed the driver on 2 different
builds of Windows 2000 - Advanced Server and workstation. I had the same
problem with both. The Workstation build was totally clean - with no geforce
tweak, riva or other utilities installed.
Looks like these drivers might only be good for XP for the moment, though
they are listed as being XP/2000 compatibile

I've seen that error....heard of it.......before. The problem is, I can't
remember the "fix" for it. But, I'm pretty sure it had to do with one of
the component files in the new drivers not "overwriting" one of the older
components....or not overwriting it properly. The fix had something to do
with using NvCleaner.....then reinstalling the new drivers.
I always "clean" my existing drivers out.....so haven't had this problem (in
a long time).
Check out Guru3D boards and I bet you this is the answer.

Apology for continuing mostly OT thread.

I did a complete uninstall, booted in VGA mode and re-installed from
scratch. Now everything is fine.
Thanks again,

I'll go back to 30.XX drivers.

Leadtek A250 GeForce4 Ti4600 128MB

No uninstaller. No real way to track them down.
We spent 2 days on a users laptop destroyed by these things once.
