I'd say that 800x600 is the most common format right now but this is rapidly
changing as larger screen sizes become more commonly used.

There are various HTML tags that differ from one to the other.  I find
Netscape a lot easier to program for.  May just be me, since that's the
browser I use anyway.  BTW, after checking my site's stats program, I
find 800x600 resolution to be a majority as well at 57%.

Err... it doesn't matter what resolution people use, since your site will
scale down in lesser resolutions, or scale-up in higher ones.

You didn't code in absolute pixel values, did you?!  :-/

800x600 is becoming the minimum resolution most computers come with...and if
your site is one that kind of caters towards power users (i.e. ones with big
monitors and high resolution like myself...tho 17" isn't that big, 1152x864
resolution, I love it) you should go for a 1024x768 layout.

Gadzooks!, my error, I admit it! Still, IE v5 is an efficient browser that
is easy to use and code for. And most people use it, so anyone designing a
web site should make sure IE is supported. I don't like MS, but sometimes,
they can actually do something right(ish). Not ***y O/S's though :-)
