I use a joystick, and my main reason for tire wear is braking and locking the
tires. I tried to learn to analog brake by pushing the joystick forward
instead of switch-braking by pushing the button, but it feels so unintuitive
for me that I've decided to just deal with occasionally locking the brakes by
pushing the button.
I've only practiced on Interlagos so far, and although my tires do wear out a
lot after 30+ laps (all four are in the red in the Car Setup menu), I can still
manage to go 36 laps on them so I can do a one-stop strategy, if necessary.
I get 1:19.XXX laps on fresh tires in my race setup (yeah, I know, pitiful, but
I haven't had time to do a full car setup evaluation yet). After 30+ laps on
the same set of tires, I can still do consistent 1:22.XXX laps.
In the Car Setup Procedure Guide in Appendix C (USA manual), it says that
softening the suspension will reduce tire wear. Appendix C also has other tips
for reducing tire wear.
