Tire Wear in GP2

Tire Wear in GP2

Hi, I was running a Non-Championship race at Aida yesterday and I
noticed that by the 10th lap I was losing considerable grip on my
tires. My laps were getting worse by the end. I looked in the book but
it doesn't seem to mention any tips on tire wear. I was wondering if
braking has an effect on tire wear? I wonder if I should be cornering
a little easier. Any tips would be a great help.

Thanks in advance...

If you dont change tires, you will get a message on your***pit
display, telling that you need to change your ***.

I use a joystick, and my main reason for tire wear is braking and locking the
tires.  I tried to learn to analog brake by pushing the joystick forward
instead of switch-braking by pushing the button, but it feels so unintuitive
for me that I've decided to just deal with occasionally locking the brakes by
pushing the button.

I've only practiced on Interlagos so far, and although my tires do wear out a
lot after 30+ laps (all four are in the red in the Car Setup menu), I can still
manage to go 36 laps on them so I can do a one-stop strategy, if necessary.

I get 1:19.XXX laps on fresh tires in my race setup (yeah, I know, pitiful, but
I haven't had time to do a full car setup evaluation yet).  After 30+ laps on
the same set of tires, I can still do consistent 1:22.XXX laps.

In the Car Setup Procedure Guide in Appendix C (USA manual), it says that
softening the suspension will reduce tire wear.  Appendix C also has other tips
for reducing tire wear.

Page 97 of the manual suggests softening the suspension. Your driving
style will also influence tyre wear.

From what I've tried, you cant tell your tyre-wear in a race, the only
way to determine, is to practice, and look at you tyres in the car
setup-menu.
It is very difficult to say, if the tyres wear out due to overbraking,
wheel-spin ect. but my opinion is, that they do.
I made a very agressive qual-setup, made very nice times, but in
race.... 5 laps, and a puncture. 8-(

Locking up the brakes is BAD news for your tyres. So are 360 degree
spins and wheelspinning out of slower corners.  To reduce tyre wear
try running lighter fuel loads  (make more stops) or soften up the
suspension all round/try not to run on bump ***s through coorners.

> Mike MHi,

in case you have not found it: in the Advanced-Section of the Car-Setup menu, you
will find a button saying <Inspect vehicle>. This shows the tire and plank wear
... guess you really have to think about your way of driving. This proves that all
the smoke and the sounds in GP2 are not just a gimmick.
