GP2: Loss of best lap in qualifacation

by Andre Cormi » Thu, 01 Aug 1996 04:00:00

Today i got my first pole position, or so i tought, i was surprised to see my
lap time reset to --:--:-- after going into pits. I think it happened when i
change my tire set, go on the circuit and returned to the pits without doing a
complete lap (ie: not crossing the finish line).

Does anybody had that kind of problem before ? The only way i found to avoid
that is to allways cross the finish line at least one time before going into
pits.

Cheers

position that way, because if you don't return on the last lap (which is the one
that the game refers to as "1" left, not "0" left!) all your times in this session
are canceled.

I had my times return to --:--:-- when I have had more than 12 laps in the
qualifying session ( which is what the real F1 rules were - if you had more
then 12 laps, you were disqualified from the session )

I set the fastest at 1:44:658 and the screen said my times were wiped out.  It isn't only
when you complete too many laps, but when you cross the finish line at the end of twelve.
I think you have to go to the pits on the twelfth lap.

Has the track at Hocken' changed from F1GP to GP2?
I clearly remember driving in the 1:36:xx range. My
friend in Texas ran it in the 1:35:xx range. Has anyone
gotten below 1:40 at Hock'..???

Yes: in F1GP you can get past the wall (corner at the end of 2nd straight) with
speeds over 250kmh. In GP2 there is a chicane that slwos you down to approx.
80kmh.

Heck, people on CServe run 1:30 and less on F1GP, and the HOF is even
lower I think.

Based on that you can see it has changed - a lot! Actually only the
second chicane has changed, you could previously take it flat in sixth
if you were VERY good or VERY lucky. In GP2 it's a complete sod, and
really slows you down. Also the engines are less powerful, with 3.0 from
3.5, and the cars have less downforce (hence more power has to go to
creating downforce.

Cheers!
John

Tha track has indeed changed - the second chicane in the woods is now
a much sharper bend. In f1GP, yuo could fly through there with 260kph,
now its all the way down into first, at least for me. That would make
op for a few seconds. However, I have noteced a general increase in lap
times - havent you?
