Logitech FF - How do I?

How can I open the cover for the wheel?
There are some silver colored screws and some black ones.
It seems like the "gripping part" has to be removed first.
Just wanted to know as I don't want to remove all of them if something
get out of position.

help is much appreciated.

You'll find detailed instructions on how to take your LWFF apart here:

Begin to unscrew the nut witch hold the wheel, and take it of. The nut is
under the logo cap on the wheel. You can easily remove this cap with a sharp
thin knife. Then unscrew all silver colored screws and leave the black ones.
After that can you lift of the cover.

Dont worry, nothing can get out of position if you only want to take a look
under the cover.

Thanks Mauritz!

Did the modifications you did on your wheel work out well?

Yes, it works very well. There is no slack at all (even way better than the
Dexxa! I have one too.) and the wheel turns very easily and is smooth. I
cant say very smoth, becuase the motor is still there.

My motor sounds terrible and with ball bearings on every axle inside the
wheel, so can I now feel every small step the motor make under load. It
doesnt feels much, but it was not exactly what I had in my mind when did
this modification. It came like a surprice. I have looked for another better
motor, but the one in the LWFF wheel is a little bit special, so I havent
found any yet.

Motors for miniracing looks and is almost the same, but they are made for
high rpm and uses a lot of power. They actually draws 20 times more ampere
than the one in the LWFF wheel, and it would hurt the electronics. And they
are not smooth either. Not smooth at all........

It was very fun to se your GPL studio! It is allways interresting to see how
other peoples arrange their stuff, and pick some  good ideas. And I guess
you dont need to ask your friends twice to do some side by side racing on
those long dark nights. :)

Yeah I can image that as a suprise :-) Btw It could be smart to look around
to find out if there is any other motors which can be used which are almost
similar to the "Johnson" motor inside the LWFF as ordering a new one from
Logitech after the one year warranty try time is over could be expensive.
For me I just hope the steel wire don't break :-) The way they made it with
the
spring in the end of the wire looks as a good solution though and it's
covered
with a thin plastic layer too. Looks promising.

Thanks, I made it in 3 afternoon's and it's really comfortable when we do
those
longer races. Also after getting the setup right for the ferrari today I
managed to
get down to 1.36.10 at Brands Hatch with 90% overall strength on the LWFF.
It's not to bad and the "wood***pit" helps alot on consistency too I
promise you!
LAN races are more fun if the opportunity is there. It's very social and
great
entertainment I think.

I'm into luck these days as my computer haven't crashed a single time with
GPL 1.1
My friends computer have crashed alot and then only difference between mine
and his
is that I stick to DirectX5.2 and the original TNT drivers from the CD.

Before I had quite a few crashes but after changing to more and better RAM
fast
HD and the SB Live and returning to the original TNT drivers everything
works
perfect.

Ok, Mauritz have too go

How hard was it to install the ball bearings?  Is it worth the effort?

I would like to do this, can you explain how you did it and what type
of bearings you used.

Thanks.
