Ah, thank you! I appreciate it. This error is easy to make (for me),
since:

"I learned to brake" is translated into Dutch as "Ik leerde hoe te
remmen."

and

"Mr. Surtees taught me to brake" is translated as "Mnr. Surtees leerde
mij hoe te remmen."

In both cases "leerde" is used in Dutch....

"Ik leer remmen" also means litterally "I leather brakes" <G> :-/
