The M3 is by far the easiest car to perform controlled slides, any driver
who actually is proud of the fact that he steered into the guard rail, to me
is incompetent. A driver lifting off when performing a evasive manouvre
isn't highly on my recommendation list either. Sorry, but you clearly
learned the wrong things of GPL. GPL should have learned you how not to get
into that slide and otherwise it would have been to make it controlled. But
not steering into the railing.

A friend of mine was doing 200k when he hit an icey patch and lost the
backend of his Renault Clio Sport. He overcorrected on the first one (nearly
everyone does that on the road) and also on the second one (that's bad) and
so he ran out of road in his third slide and crashed into the barrier. He
just said; bad driving. Not wow, I made it to three slides.

About the speed thing, that's completely normal. I've done 200 in a GT3,
thinking I was doing 140.

I'm sorry to hear you damaged the car and have to live with that high
insurance premium, but... congrats on being alive Tim! :-)

That should be vehicle insurance.

Cheers,

Guess you were on the wrong newsgroup for good knockers...

Yeh - you didn't _have_ to admit it all you could have said a lorry pulled
out...

I certainly didn't think you were proud or impressed - just that it could have
been an awful lot worse and possibly your split second decision to take the
impact rather than try to save it was down GPL experience.

I had expected it to be a "hung on to a slide for several miles" story rather
than ending in tears - so from that respect it was rather different!

It does highlight the dangers of distractions whilst driving. In the UK advanced
driving instructors frown upon gearchanging whilst braking to limit simultaneous
tasks, whilst if the car makers pack any more toys in top end cars we will be
able to play GPL on the way to work...

Ain't that the truth.

That's true enough... to a degree, however in my own experience, there is a
threshold, it's easy to lose perspective of how fast your driving up to
200kph, believing yourself to be only doing 160ish,, especially in todays
quieter, more stable cars, however once you hit that threshold, in my case
about 230kph you definitely know that your on the brink of extinction.
(In my younger, stupider days, I definately DO NOT condone high-speeds on
public roads, and if I could meet my former self I'd slap him around the
head for being such an ***, the one reason my 'original' reply to Tim's
post was never sent, let he who has no sin.....)

Not unless you want to show us proof of how bad a driver you really are.

If I may borrow from a Mastercard commercial here in the states.

Rear Tyres             $300

BMW M3             $60,000 (or what ever they cost)

Living to tell about it,        Priceless.

Cars come, cars go, people on the other hand can not be replaced.

Be more careful.
