Let's put a stop to this Millennium nonsense.......

Until all of the news media agrees that this is true, (Which it is) and reports
to the world that the millennium doesn't end till next year, then we'll have to
live with it.  Hardly nobody thinks for themselves anymore.    ssssigh

Please note the date of the item reproduced below............

"We have uniformly rejected all letters and declined all discussion upon
the
question of when the present century ends, as it is one of the most
absurd
that can engage the public attention, and we are astonished to find it
has
been the subject of so much dispute, since it appears plain. The present

century will not terminate till January 1, 1801, unless it can be made
out
that 99 are 100... It is a silly, childish discussion, and only exposes
the
want of brains of those who maintain a contrary opinion to that we have
stated"
The Times, 26 December 1799

Now can we please just accept the fact that it is the_ignorant_ who
consider 2000 to be the start of century 21 and leave it at that? This
has been going on for over 200 years!

But if you read the TIMES today, you would've seen them proudly proclaim the

Then perhaps one of our English colleagues could drop a note to them with a clip
from their past edition.

Maintain your belief in what you _know_ is correct, Philster.
(As an historian you would know that down through the ages there have been innumerable
examples of that credo!)

If people instead of believe what television say they opened there
dictionnary !

a century : period of 100 years, begining in year 1 , 1-100,101-200,etc..

a milenium :  period of 1000 years begining in year 1, 1-1000,
1001-2000,2001-3000
