No CD patch for SCGT? (And other Q's)

by Yan.. » Thu, 28 Dec 2000 17:47:59

I've done a full install of SCGT to my hard drive, and have music turned
off.  Is there a "no CD" patch that will let me play this game w/o
having to swap CD's around?

Does anyone race this online? I noticed that the readme says internet
play is not supported, but the game does support TCP/IP, and I think I
read some time ago that folks played this online?

I note in the startup menu where it lists my system and video driver
select, that it calls my system a "class 4", but I do not see any
documentation that describes how this fares against what it likes?
What's a class 5, 3,2,etc?

Any info appreciated! TIA

There is a NO-CD patch, somewhere, not too sure.

It doesn't work on the internet very well at all unfortunately  :(

Maybe, 1 on 1 play, but otherwise it is extremely poor, which is a great
pity, but wait for WSC  :)

Machine class, can't help you there.  Not sure exactly what it is...

You should also use the 1.551 patch.  The uspits.com has tweeked the
official patch to include nocd and visual damage.  go the the scgt section
of the pits.  You will find both versions of the patch.  dload the  one that
mentions visdamage and is slightly larger.

Thanks, I tried what appeared to be the proper one:
"Sports Car GT v1.0/v1.551 [US] No-CD 18-02-2000"

Which contains file: tac-sgt.zip

Says in the text file that it is for: "Sports Car GT [US] v1.0 & v1.551"
But it did not work. Upon executing it searches for one file, finds
it and patches, searches for a second file (no indication of name)
then says it can't find it "or it is running" and stops.

"_ Seeking file..... Passed!
 _ Seeking file..... Failed!

_ File not found or running!"

Starting SCGT it still wants the CD.

Drat.

I wonder if this is because I used the US Pits version of the 1.551
patch for SCGT?

That was what I did when I installed SCGT. But it wanted the CD in the
drive, even though I did a full install and unchecked the play music
box. So that is why I am trying to pacth it with a no-cd patch.

Just to be extra clear and make sure you understand me, after I
installed the game I went to the pits site to look for car mods, saw the
1551_VD patch, d/l and installed it. Nowhere in its docs does it mention
having a no-cd  capability, and it does want to see the CD after using
that patch.

Here is what it says:

  SCGT 1.551 patch + visdam2 - change date September 28 2000

-This is a pack of the official 1.551 patch but with the visdam2 exe
file included instead. Since the VD2 exe seems even more stable and many
people want to have the VD2 we thought it would be nice to pack them
together. The dirctory structure of the zip is fixed the same way as the
1.551 patch without VD2 (see below)  (Image Space / Marc Nelson) [4MB]

ok thats odd cuz I haven't put my cd in since I used that patch.  Quick
question then...are you using the US version of scgt?  (just a shot in the
dark)
if you still have the patch, could you tell me how large it is??/  how many
mega bytes.  The original was like 3.8mb(trying to remember) and the updated
one was 4.3mb or something like that....)
Was this a clean install or did you re-install it???  This may be a tough
nut to
crack.  When you run the patch...did you first place it in the main scgt
folder?
(again, not known help, just another wild guess)

> are you using the US version of scgt?

Yes

scgt1551_vd2.zip = 4,094KB

I installed SCGT, full version as best I recall (273megs) then applied
this patch.

The zip file was in a temp directory. I examined it in WinZip, then
unzipped it to the SCGT directory "using folder names" so that
the proper files went to the main directory as well as the sub
directories of \dat and \mas.

The spcar.exe file this left me with was dated "5/24/99 11:37pm"

Also in that zip file was the "visual damage patch" a zip file
named "scgtvisdam2.zip" of 10/24/99. I opened that up and applied
it. It changed the spcar.exe to one dated 8/10/99 6:22pm.

No where in the documentation for either part of the patches
does it say anything about "no CD" though.

Thanks for your assistance!

> Was this a clean install or did you re-install it??? <

To be sure, I uninstalled SCGT.
I reinstalled, full install, but not the 1551 patch from the CD.
Then I applied the extra cars patch (scgt_cars.exe) from the CD.
I started the game, created a driver, went to options,
made sure music was not selected. Exited game.
Game exe was "spcar.exe" of 3/29/99.

Opened CD drawer, restarted game. After 3dfx animation
the intro smack started to play, I escaped that and selected
my driver. Game asked for CD, would not advance.
I exited game.

I applied the US Pits "scgt1551_vd2.zip" patch,
but not the "visual damage" patch.
Game exe now dated 5/29/99.

Restarted game. Again, after the 3dfx animation
the intro smack started to play, but after selecting
my driver the game asked for CD. Would not advance.
I closed the CD drawer and it was happy.

I've had similar problems with the Pit's SCGT patch.... It still want's the
game CD, so I've learned to live with having to switch CD's out every time I
want to run the game :-(

Please let us know (Dave especially) how this turns out!

I just found this in a forum at speedsims.com:

"The TCcar patch is supposed to give you a NoCd exe,Is the game giving
you  an error saying it can't find the CD when you fire it up?"

So maybe it is the Touring Car patch that gives "no-CD"?

And also so this reply (but I have no idea what it means):

"i had this problem at one point until i used the executes from srs that
are  configured for ban scene, some of the mas executes will ask for the
cd  if you use ban scene"

Ok, it is the Touring car &/or Ban Mas (?) patches that have the "no CD"
hack.

I found one at http://www.btinternet.com/~sean.stafford/

This is a -HUGE- download, but well worth the wait even with 56k.

Service Pack 3.0 makes the game even more enjoyable if that's
possible.
