bandwidth for N4 server

bandwidth for N4 server

I have access to a fractional T1, 768Mbps up/down.  How many
connections will this accomodate for N4?

TIA,
Gerald

By default, an N4 server will use at most on the order of 21000 bits per
second (each direction) per client connection.  This includes game data,
UDP/IP packet header overhead, plus a fudge factor.

If I recall correctly, a full T1 is ~ 1.5Mbits/sec, so I can only assume
that a fractional T1 would be ~768Kbits/sec (not 768Mbits/sec).

So you're looking at ~(768Kb/sec) / ~(21Kb/sec/client) = ~36 clients.
Your mileage may vary.

A fractional T1 can be any number of channels out of a full T1(T1 has 24 channels), he seems to have
access to 12 channels that seem to be inbound and outbound configured.  Each channel is about 60K
IIRC.

<snip>

I'd set it up for 32 clients and hope for the best (simply to allow for more
or less TCP overhead). The above mathmatical calculations are based on the
assumption that the bandwidth is uninterrupted and with most access lines
(T1, T3, OC3 etc), they are hardly ever uninterrupted. According to Papy and
my independant testing, the above math is accurate in theory.

Yes, you are right, I brain-fotted...

Wow, 36 clients.  Thats more than I expected.  Very cool.

Thanks,
Gerald

Yes, I think each fraction is the same thing as an ISDN BRI channel
(64k).  Some data comm guru will probably want to shoot me for saying
that.

Listen to Mr. Cassidy - he is (no sarcasm intended) *all-knowing* where
bandwidth is concerned regarding papy sims.

I dont think anybody want to shoot you, but isn't a US ISDN BRI channel
56Kbit?
Euro ISDN is 64Kbit.

I've heard of 56k B channels, but mine are 64k, supposedly.
