By watching the tach you can see that the tires are periodically
spinning up. If someone can tell me why I think sub 9s are possible.

I'm sure David G. Fisher's neighbour can help you out here...

Ok..I have nothing better to do, so here goes my theory :)

If you watch closely from the 'arcade view' you can see that
the curvature at the top of the bowl is made up of two sections
with an angle to each other. When the car happens to be positioned
so that the right hand side tyres are on the top section and the
left hand side tyres are on the bottom section then the center
of the car will be above the very shallow V made up of these
two sections (i.e. the center of the car is above the point
where the two sections connect). When the car is at this position
the ground clearance is higher than when it is positioned totally
on either section. More ground clearance -> more speed before
bottoming out -> more revs (maybe).

So what you want to do is keep the car above this V-point. The problem
is that this point seems to be an unstable point and the car does not
want to stay here. If you're very precise and quick with the steering
you might be able to keep it at this point for a longer time and
maybe then break into 8 second laps. Good luck :)

  Casper

It's all to do with the contact patches of the tires, because (as Casper
has just pointed out) the sections of track form V shapes.  Low contact
patch = low grip = wheels flare up.  (I think!)

After reviewing the replay in light of your comments I'd say that you
were spot on. I'm using Race Engineer to max out ride height, springs,
shocks and bumpers. You can't do any more to prevent bottoming. On
staying over the groove, I wasn't really steering the car, it was doing
a slow weave all by itself. I don't think you could stay over it
either. I'm going to play with the other cars and see if they have any
positive quirks.

Might, perhaps, the introduction of large amounts of negative camber
help then?

I have a 6.05 second lap while racing on VROC
5 others were in the room with me.
