Problems with ICR under OS/2 2.1

by Donald Act » Wed, 19 Jan 1994 17:10:30

I am posting this note on behalf of my brother, who doesn't have access
to the net. I therefore apologize in advance if some of the things I
say aren't perfectly clear.

My brother has Indy Car Racing and he is trying to run it in a full
screen DOS session under OS/2 2.1 He has a 40Mhz 386 with 8 Meg of
memory and Soundblaster 16. According to my brother there are a number
of things that he can't do without crashing the program. For example,
whenever he goes to select a different gearbox, the program crashes.
So, have any of you out there got ICR to run properly under OS/2 2.1
and if so what did you have to do? Any pointers to appropriate DOS
settings would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Problems with ICR under OS/2 2.1

I can run ICR on my 16 Mb 386DX40 reaonably well.  Its playable,
but I can't have as much detail as under DOS.  I have a problem
that it crashes every time I try to change the stagger of the
wheels.  I haven't tried fiddling with the gearbox settings.

My settings are basically to give it lots of DPMI memory, no expanded
memory.  I set IDLE SENSITIVITY to 100 and INT DURING I/O to off.  Theres
another setting with XGA in the title.  The little bit of text on the
settings screen says which way to set it for playing games.  There is
a file of settings for DOS games under OS/2.  Its called something like
games21.zip.

It might be worth pestering them to get them to try to get a fix for
the crashes.

I think you'll find that even after it runs in OS/2 that you won't like
the control the stick gives you.  Papyrus uses Rational's dos extender
that seems to go ape s*it in OS/2 and jitters like crazy.  SVGA AirWarrior
does the same thing (same extender).  I wish it wasn't so because I love
OS/2 and these two games.

Problems with ICR under OS/2 2.1

Hello all,

i try to used ICR in a DOS session (full screen) under OS/2 2.1 and
everything manage to work find except the joystick control. I think OS/2
is doing a kind of polling on the joystick port: in the setup menu under
calibration of joystick, i see a cycling glitch (the pointer indicating
that the joystick in centred go to the left side in a cyclic maner on the
y axis and on the x axis). Still looking for DOS Setting that solve this
problem ... !!! :-(

I have: 486/33 16mb ram, joystick controler, SBpro (with the joystick port
not enable)

Amasing: when the game is started, i return the DOS session in window mode
(alt-home) and everything work OK (little bit slowly but OK).

BTW: It's a great game, but I'd appreciate using it under OS/2, curently
i must boot under real DOS 5.0 (dual boot) to use it.

        thanks...
