Julian, you are not imagining this! From my personal experience
the setups degree of of looseness is dependant of how fast your modem
partner is. The only way to alleviate this is to find a partner with the
same speed cpu that you are running. If the faster partner phones the
slower your setups will tighten up. This also applies to Hawaii as well,
if you keep track of your server numbers you will soon find out which
ones are faster or slower! Not all servers are created equal! If and
when the program gets a frame counter you may be able to observe the
phenomenon you discribe if my theory is correct!
