Does anyone actually like this game?

I bought it because Lankhor also did Vroom back in the old Amiga days (
which i played for months then, it was before Geoff Crammond popped up
F1GP).

I've had a few hours of fun so far. Nothin' like a simulator, but fun
though. Graphics are o.k. and the 'feel' is much better than F1RS.

Anyone tried it yet? I've not seen a single post about it so far.

Later,
Arthur.

Funny you should ask.  I just bought it today, tried it for the past few
hours, and am planning to return it to EB tomorrow.  I couldn't get the
sound to work, except for that annoying music in the menus.  I tried
playing it "silently", but the handling is WAY too touchy, and just didn't
seem realistic at all.

Graphics are pretty good though...

I don't know...maybe I'm not giving it enough of a try?  Convince me.

In the meantime, I've gone back to MGPRS2.  But I'm having some problems
there too.  (See separate post).

I like it, even though it's more arcade than a simulator. The graphics is
quite good.
Frame rate is good, i was getting 25-27 frames/sec with my Voodoo 2 800x600
and
today i bought the Voodoo3 3000 AGP, and i'm getting 38-40 in 1024x768 !!!

Just to give an idea, the game is far from laptime reality, i did 1m22.982
at the
Australian GP, beating the AI with an advance of almost 8sec over them at
Expert level. But the game is still fun to play with. Internet play through
Kali was pretty good
with my friend (since we both have ASDL connection). The only set back is
for a
2 persons race, you're stuck with one AI car !!!

Some area of the game is better then MGPRS2, but the overall winner is
still MGPRS2
by a big margin. But OF1R is quite an improvement from the previous version
Power F1. They still have to improve it to be able to compete with MGPRS2
and the future
RS3 apparently coming out this fall.

OF1R could give a good challenge, if you're not to good with setting up
your car, since
it's not to hard to set it up in this one.
Bye Coco

P.S. I know MGPRS2 and GPL physics are quite better, but this is why, OF1R
isn't in
the same category, but it's own (fun arcade)!!!

I just downloaded the demo,

I was very suspicious after playing eidos's last F1 disaster (cant even
remember the name of it but it was real bad).

I thought the demo was excellent, the***pit views were great, the driving
sensation was the best I've felt since GP2 and the sounds were also very
realistic.  The enigine tone reminded me of when they switch to riding with
a driver during a GP telecast.

Best of all, it ran smoothly with good graphics on my p233 notebook.
Something that none of the other new sims have really been able to do.

I'll probably buy it.

Am I missing something here? The 'official f1 racing' by lankhor is
the same as the Eidos game, it is distributed by Eidos....
And as a simulation, it plain sucks.
As a game, it's fun.

It think he's referring to the older (1996 or 1997) Eidos
release called "Power F1".

I'm not sure how it compares with Official F1, but it was
awful as a simulator and as an arcade game.

Actually, many people do, including myself, though it's lack of FF
support is preventing me from doing any racing on it right now since
my FF wheel is what is hooked up to my system right now and not my TSW
Sport.

Funny you mention that...

I've removed my FF wheel, and I'm going back to a standard wheel.

The fad is over for me, at least for now.  FF wheels are, overall,
sluggish.  At least to me.  I find heavy-handed corrections (like in
MTM2 and certain Nascar 'incidents') to be quite stiff with FF wheels.

FFB works fine on my copy...at least as fine or as crudely as the rest of
the game.

Mine auto-detects it, but won't let it be configured without***
up the game (and it hangs in multiplayer, too, even when its working
with FF -- it doesn't hang when using my TSW -- I wish I'd had a
working FF wheel when I wrote my review).

But when the thing worked I just didn't notice anything other than a
standard centering force.

Well, the FFB is in keeping with the rest of the title, I would say.
Mediocre, with no meaningful adjustments possible.  It is a bit of fun, but
I returned mine due to the lack of support for dual axis controller.  It
wasn't good enough for me to bother remembering to change my controller
configuration before running it.  If I ran it forgetting to change
controller settings, it would cough and sputter and menus would be flying
everywhere until I could escape out....not fun.

If it was even 20% more realistic, I think it would be a decent title to
have some fun with--equivalent to a TOCA2 or CMR, e.g.  Now I am going to go
see your review!!!
