gpl and gp3 racers read!!!

If I could just make a statement. I hope to not be one of the people who
races GPL just to come here and complain. Although I think I have an
understanding of what is going on. GPL certainly is not perfect. There are
things in it that could be a lot better, but there really should be no doubt
that it is the best. The features it has are better than most other games on
the market. It seems to have a good overall package if you know what I mean.
GP2 when came out was revolutionary. It did things that other sim makers
could only dream of doing. I think many GPL racers were GP2 drivers. They
switched to GPL because it was a more up to date sim. Now GP3 is released
and the hype from Crammond and Hasbro is that it is the next step in the
evolution of racing games. In reality it is not. It is more like GP2.5. The
game is not revolutionary in any means with the exception of the rain which
was done quite well. Many of the ex GP2 drivers that now race GPL are highly
disappointed. They have drove GPL for two years and a new sim that is better
made them e***d. Unfortunately it is not better. Actually the game is not
bad, but it is not really the game that everyone thought Hasbro would
release. The graphics are out of date (with exception of the rain), the
physics should be better, it should have multiplayer (although we knew ahead
of time that it would not), and the cpu requirements for what you get are
too high. Obviously the high cpu requirements must be related to poor
coding. This game is another example of what is going on in the ***
market today. Game developers are not allowed to come out with the kind of
game they want to because of budgets and time restraints. I personally feel
the technology that is present in this game is such that it could have come
out over  a year ago but due to the poor coding no one would have been able
to play it with a decent frame rate. Yes we (gpl racers) are beating up on
it alot but it is only because we WANTED to like it. --

Overall agree, Brian; good comments.
But I'm using the game with a PII 333 with less 100% PO. Ok, It's not bad,
but I've read a lot of best systems here, in ras. May be RAM? (128Mb in my
system).
I think GP2 had more CPU requirements, in that moment.

Now thats what I call a sensible statement. Wish all the comments on r.a.s.
where this way. Thank you.

I do not agree that Hasbro created a bunch of hype for this game. I think
most of the hype came from these groups blowing things that Crammond stated
in interviews out of proportion.

And I think THIS is spot-on.  After F12K came out, all people were
saying here (and on other forums) was "this will tide us over for a
while until GP3 comes out," implying that GP3 would be the be-all and
end-all of F1 sims.  Now GP3 is out and everyone is whining that it
doesn't live up to THEIR expectations, but I never saw anything from
Hasbro or Crammond promising anything "revolutionary" about GP3 -- at
least nothing that led me to believe that it would exceed GPL or F12K
in the physics department.

Thanks for a great post with no flames, no insults and no waffling. I
will still be buying the game when it is available in the US, but I
will probably get it from my favorite EB in order to try something else
if it simply dosn't cut it for me. In the meantime, it is great to have
your excellent info. Thanks again!

Thanks, John.  I also agree.  I know you don't need my approbation, but
I want you and Brian to know there are  people on this NG who still
appreciate  a calm, sensible and reasoned approach with no flames and
insulting invective.  Thanks again!

This has been the by far most sensible post about GP3 so far. I'm very much
an old GP2 player who's switched to GPL and am disapointed by how little GP3
has advanced over GP2 but I still love it. I still can't see anything
topping GPL for a while but I'll be enjoying GP3 for what it is.
