Martinsville: Fix for Killer Pacecar

Martinsville: Fix for Killer Pacecar

by Mick » Thu, 16 May 2002 02:48:14

Hey,
I was wondering if any of the track "data" guys have tried either
constructing a "new" Martinsville, or Converting the "Nascar 4"
Martinsville to NR2002, to see if it may cure the crazy pacear problem?
Also, a guy on the Sierra forum had a great idea of making the pacecar
"morphable" like the ai cars, or the guy at the end of pit road.. I
personally don't know how to do any of these things, but just trying to
find a cure so our league can run Martinsville online, next time
around.. Thanks for your time. Mick

Martinsville: Fix for Killer Pacecar

My league has successfully run two races at Marty with no troubles at all.
Occasionally when the yellow comes out, the pace car will drive down pit
lane for 1 lap instead of being on the track (where it belongs) and then it
will exit the pits and lead the pack on the track.  As long as the race
leader uses his F2 window (toggled to 'live') and stays behind where the
pace car should be on the track, all has been well.  I think the bug rears
it's head when guys drive at race speed when the pace car is on pit lane
during cautions rather than on the track.

Npe, we've tried several time to race there and its basicly imposible, the pace car flies around the track at 160 mph...lol

Humm.... I guess we were "just lucky" through two 35% length races, then.

Martinsville: Fix for Killer Pacecar

I have raced two 50% length races at Marty, one with the flying Pace Car of
death and one where it acted perfectly normal.

Nothing in any of the files had been tampered with either time. Although to
be fair I have not ran Marty since installing the Patch.

Martinsville: Fix for Killer Pacecar

by Mick » Fri, 17 May 2002 02:25:40

Our league tried to run it both before and after the patch.. Each time the pace
car went nuts.. We sat everyone down and explained about not passing the pacear,
after taking the yellow flag, and all that.. But to no avail.. Even if the lead
lap cars don't pass him, if a lapped car gets a lap back, that'll set him off
when they go to get back on the lead lap. The only way it works, is if you have
basically a perfect race, with the yellows flying at just the right time.. We
did make it through one or 2 cautions with no problem, but he eventually got
us.. It's too bad, that's a great track when it works right..

That's why I was wondering if Dave Noonan's track converter might be able to
convert N4 Marty to 2002.. Or maybe Fred (WhiteFalcon) could try building a new
Marty, to see if the pacecar would act the same... Anyone know either of these
guys, and could ask them about it?
