Colin McRae Rally - No Sound or FF

by Peter Hoope » Sun, 05 Dec 1999 04:00:00

Hi people,
Just installed CMR on my pc and although everything seemd to go fine I find
that when in the game I have no sound or ff effects. I am using a SBLive
Player 1024 sound card and MSFF wheel. Both work fine in all other sims. The
FF effects are set to the max in the Sidewinder Control Panel with the
return to center turned off and ff is set to on in the game but they are
totally dead when I drive.

Any help would be appreciated as even minus the sound and ff I still enjoyed
the quick drive I had.

Regards

Peter Hooper

PS:- I have DirectX 7 installed so I didn't bother with any of the DirectX
stuff that CMR asked about installing... could this be the problem. DX7
works perfectly in everything else...

DX7 works fine for me and CMR, no problems with my SB Live or LWFF. Have you
downloaded the patch from Codemaster for the game?

Just a quick update on my problem from yesterady... I went back and
installed DxMedia (which I didn't do originally as I didn't want to risk
upsetting my DirectX7 which had been working perfectly...) and when I went
back in the game the ff was now ok.. unfortunately I then got a couple of
blue screen errors so I did a complete re-install (including DxMedia..) and
now everything is working fine...

Hi, I lost all sound in CMR when I upgraded to DX7, and the patch did not
fix this. Neither did it fix the hang at the loading screen of Bluff's
Knoll. I've been told that this was due to my sound card not having a driver
update since 1997, and when I replaced DX7 with 6.1 the sound came back. I
didn't notice any difference in the graphics due to dithering enablement in
the patch.
