I get this message which also says "No DirectX 8 video adapters
found." yet I have just installed an Asus V8420 ( Ti 4200) card which
is definitely Direct X 8 compatible and downloaded the latest drivers.
These are dated October this year.
Is this a problem with the game or perhaps a System setting?
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Will your machine run any other games?

What about the dx diagnostics? Press Start, Run, and then type dxdiag

On the tab Display1, does it say that Direct3D Acceleration is
enabled? If not, can you press the button to enable it?

Have you reinstalled DX8 since the card swap?

There is a glitch in some installs of DirectX which will show *enabled* even
tho it is disabled...

Simply clicking [Disable], then [Enable] fixes it.

I did a reinstall of Directx - no change.
I have run Dxdiag and all checks out OK.
I have several other games that use DirectX and all run well including
Grand Prix 3 2000 and F1 Championship Racing.
But it seems the problem arises when the game specs say "DirectxX 8
compatible Video Card".
I have just tried Need for Speed Hot Pursuit 2 and get an error as
well. "Unknown problem initiating graphics".
I know that my Asus Card is DiectX 8.X compatible.
Any other suggestions?

Well you have probably all ready done it, but have you tried a different
driver version?

Yes, I did. But I have solved the problem! I did two things so I can't
be sure which one did it.
1. I disabled and then re-enabled Hardware Acceleration in DXdiag
2. I changed "fast write supported=No support" in the BIOS to
"supported".
This may be of help to others. I was very relieved.

Glad it's working. I think the problem with DirectX and the
dxsetup program is that the button to enable/disable direct X seems
backwards. When direct X is DIS-abled. The button will say EN-abled
because that is what will happen when you clik on it. Goofy eh?
