RANDOM weather. Once in a while it will be dark.

You will need a hex editor such as Diskedit
from the Norton Utilities.
First COPY the file NASCAR.EXE to NASNIGHT.EXE.
Then with your hex editor search for and change
the two text strings that both say sunny.pcx to
night.pcx in the newly created file (NAS-NITE.EXE).
Lastly copy the enclosed file NIGHT.PCX to all of
your TRACKS subdirectories except for BRISTOL (the
BRISTOL.DAT file already has the data in it).
Fire up NASCAR by typing NASNIGHT <enter> and
prepare for those cool nighttime breezes!

So there's another route. I haven't tried it with the track pack.

This is not true. The only way to get night racing is through the
championship season. Random weather is just that, random weather:
temperature and wind speed and direction. There is probably a way to
modify a track.txt file and race at night, but I believe it would still
have to be during a championship season.

Hmmm, have you ever had this happen?
There is a file that has to be added to each track that you want
to *night race* at. Then you load NASNITE instead of NASCAR.

Some time ago I put Bristol track in TRACKS directory of Nascar Demo and I got
this track and it was night race :-O . I didn't change anything, simply gave
this track to Nasdemo. JFYI. :)

BTW, has anyone noticed that the car handles differently at the night race
compared to the day race at Bristol? I've never compared the weather
conditions but I guess that could account for the difference.
You can race at night at any time on any track. Copy "nascar.exe" to
something like "niterace.exe". Then load it into a hex editor and
search for "sunny.pcx". Replace this with "night.pcx". Then copy the
file "night.pcx" that is in your "nascar\tracks\bristol" directory to
each other track directory. You just run "niterace.exe" instead of
"nascar.exe". Even the opening scene is at night.
