GP2 Worth it??

by Eric Bish » Mon, 29 Jul 1996 04:00:00

I havent really gotten into any racing games but the graphics of GP2
look wounderful from what Ive seen on Web Pages.  Is this sim a buy?
I have a P166 etc.. so performance shouldnt be a problem.  I just
want to know if its worth the money and if it is a recommended buy.

Thanks,

Eric

Yes, I'm sure you will see by all the posts here that the opinions on it
are favorable, especially if you have decent hardware, which you state you
do.

Running great on my P166 with just a few details off, and so far the only
things I think need fixing is more realistic damage, and the addition of
changing weather conditions, but the game is very good as it is.

The driving model is terrific, just make sure you give the game a chance
and don't expect it to be the end-all of games, but yes it is well worth
buying, and was worth the long wait.
Of course that it my opinion as long as you were asking.

Cheers.

YES!!! Its worth it.

Dont worry about all posting saying that it has poor performance on high end systems. I run it on a P75 with
a fast graphics card and it flies (all details exept mirrors in VGA). In SVGA I get approx 14.2-15 fps with
lowered texture (and my processor occupancy stays below 100% in 15 out of 16 cases, not Monaco:)

I wasnt into racing games either before I found GP1, 3 years ago. Im still not a hard core racing fan but
the game is absolutely the best. I bought GP2 1 minute after the store recieved it July 19th. Thats actually
really one minute. The special delivery car was still outside when I left the store with my copy.

Hope this helps you in knowing if youre buying a game thats good or not. IMO it would get 100% of 100%
possible in the gameplay area (and pretty much the same in other areas as well)!!

Don't be so sure that a P166 will not have a problem with this game.  I am
running it on a P166 with a fast video card and the game gets downright
boggy when you are driving Monaco.

If you get rid of the sky texture and stay away from Monaco, the game runs
at a very good frame rate for myself.  I don't actually go and calculate
the frames per second since it totally depends on the what the person
playing is willing to tolerate.  Some people can't stand less than 20FPS
while others are perfectly happy with 10.

If you can find one, it is a definite must buy.  As soon as you get past
the "Hey, this is just like GP1!" stage, will you will spending hours
saying "Cool!"  I have been chained to my steering wheel for a couple of
days and I am still discovering amazing new things in the game.

My advice is buy this game and ignore the horror posts about poor
graphics performance.  I have not had a problem with slow graphics on
a P100.  The game does have some flaws but its good points and
attention to detail more than make up for them.  There are also plenty
of options to help those that are new to racing games.  The manual
(for those that bothered to read it) is reasonably helpful on setup
options.
