Race07 Questions

After many years of NASCAR Racing 2003 I downloaded the demo of Race07 and
found it pretty good..certainly different from what I am used to.

What I would like to know is..
What do the more experienced simmers think of it? Is it realistic? And what
about Steam? I never heard of it. How does that impact the driving
experience? Any downside?

Any input would be appreciated before I make a commitment.

TIA

Yes it is pretty well regarded. Bear in mind the primary simulation is
WTTC cars, most of which are FWD.

The open wheelers have a more mixed response. I don't have enough
experience to say though I think they lack the overall polish of the
WTCC cars (as if less time was spent on them)

And what

Steam is simply a software distribution and authentication system - it
makes no difference to the driving experience. It is handy for patches
and means you don't need a CD/DVD in the drive. You do need an internet
connection though (although there is an offline mode once authenticated)

Cheers

I like it. The online play is about as good or better than any I have ever
experienced and the offline AI are also very good. I was leary about the
Steam thing, but once I got it installed I now launch most my racing sims
there (GTR, GTR2, GTL, N2003 and rfactor). It is nice to just have one icon
to click and then launch what I want. It has no effect at all as far as
gameplay is concerned. Back to Race 07. I like running the sedans and coupes
much better than open wheel cars, but the F3000 series in the sim is
actually a lot of fun. I got Race 07 through Steam (yea.....spent too
much.....again) and it updated it with the new patch and you can have it do
that with all sims that you register through them that they support.

How do you launch non-steam games from within Steam?

Open steam and go to the My Games tab.  At the bottom of the screen is a
button for add non-steam games and one to activate a product.  I think the
Simbin games can be added in this manner, not sure of others.

You can launch virtually any program from Steam. Some will not activate of
course. All the above sims and FSX and CFS3 work just fine as far as having
a central point to launch them. It is more of just a convenience than
anything else. I have fewer shortcuts/quick launch stuff to worry about.

Pardon my ignorance, as I've never used Steam before...  How is having
a central location to launch games from (Steam) any more convenient
than having a central location to launch games from (my PC desktop).
I currently just click on a single icon and go...  Is Steam more
convenient than that!???

Steam is about copy protection...

Thanks. Never noticed that option before.

Vista comes with it's own game launcher too.

Putting icons all over the desktop looks messy and makes for a slower
boot up time. I like game launchers.

I have had too many issues with Vista so I will just wait for awhile before
I try it again. Maybe after the SP1 release I 'might' give it another go.

Yea, I went back to XP too and put Vista on a secondary PC for now. I
even bought 4gb of ram to use with Vista64. Seems my issue may have been
a bad video card and have a replacement coming next week so may give it
another go. Latest game benchmarks I've seen show Vista performing
almost as good as XP now. I had the scrambled screen issue in Vista on
the 7900GT and is the only reason I dumped it. I can live with it's
other quirks.

Does it use StarForce?
