Hello all,

I am taking a trip to visit relatives in Norway in July and it looks like I
may be able to make it to the F1 race at Silverstone.  If anyone has any
info on how much it costs to travel from Norway(Oslo) to the track with an
overnight or two.  I am sorry to say that I have no idea how far the track
is from London(US schooling at it's finest).  I have tried to wade through a
couple of websites, but I was hoping someone might have a local angle.  It
looks like I'll be able to find tickets although I only need race day
tickets.

Thanks in advance for any info,

Chad Rogers

Well I live just a few miles from the track and getting in and out is a
nightmare, it's Situated in the county of Northamptonshire about 50 miles
North of London... you go straight up the M1 (Motorway/Freeway) to junction
13 I think. (I go a different way as it's back roads all the way for me).
Parking is a nightmare, and expect to be stuck in traffic for the best part
of the day. Accommodation is a struggle race weekend, most places being
booked well in advance.

The best way to get in and out is by helicopter, if you can club together
with a few others it's by far the best way to experience the day. A group of
us did it a few years back, the cost was about 60 per person for the
helicopter and about 75 for the tickets. It's an expensive day out, and not
one I'd rush to do again in a hurry unless I could get passes to the pits
and back areas.  The landing field for the helicopters is a riot though, on
race day, that little airport is the busiest airport in the world, with take
offs and landings every 15 seconds, they literally throw you out of the
helicopter (OK exaggeration) and you have to scoot out of the way sharpish.

But the best race I've been too was the 86 Grand Prix at Brands Hatch, that
was a scream, access all areas because I had a friend who co-owned a
security firm... guess who was doing some of the security that weekend.  :o)

I think the only Airlines that fly Oslo-London is SAS and British Airways.
There could be others though. There are more than one international airport
in the London aria, so you might not want to fly to the one that is farthest
from Silverstone. :)
If you're interested in traveling with a group of Norwegian F1 enthusiasts,
let me know, and I'll dig up some links or e-mail addresses. I have heard
about $1000 mentioned, Travel, accommodation and tickets to the whole
weekend.

Thanks for the tips guys.  Sounding like this one might not be the trip for
me.  Maybe I'll try to get to Indy.
