Win98 game port trouble

by Niil » Wed, 19 Jul 2000 04:00:00

I've tried installing a Logitech Wingman Formula Force USB wheel in my
Celeron 466-based system running Win98 but got an error msg: "Your game
port or game port drivers are not properly configured, consult device
manager" (no reported conflicts in my system). I also tried to install
my old Graqvis analog joystick - same error msg. I connected the Gravis
through my old SBAWE32; ancient DOS games recognize the joystick ok but
not Win98.

Any info appreciated!

What version DirectX do you have? Do you have a working USB
port, and have you tested it?

mangled uncounted electrons thus:

It looks like you have a problem with the USB port. Are you sure
it's actually working correctly?

USB is a fine idea that works very spottily in practice. I had to
solve an interesting problem for a friend who had a USB scanner
and printer; whenever he went to print, the scanner died. Solved
it by reverting the printer to the parallel port...

Hoping to buy a Logi FF wheel soon. It'll be connected to COM 1
(the advantage of a P/S2 mouse...)

Win98 game port trouble

I had the same type of problems with the LWFF.  I could not for the
life of me get the profiler to work thru my USB.  USB had no issues
for any of my other 6 devices.  Even tried hooking it up by itself.
NADA.  I ended up connecting it to COM1 and everything works fine now.

One thing though....I had to add this to my N3.ini file:

NO_WIN_KEYS

everytime I hit the ESC key it would revert to my desktop and I never
had that problem with my Thrustmaster T2

Hope this helps a little
