look in your WINDOWS directory for two files: SYSTEM.DAT and USER.DAT they
are read-only and hidden so if you're using explorer, make sure it's set to show
all files and extensions.
simply copy both files to another directory when everything is working right. if
you make some changes to get things right, restart before you copy them so
you're sure windows will accept the settings you have.
then if something changes later and you don't like it, just put the copies back
in WINDOWS, and restart..... or if you do like the changes, it's a good idea to
replace the copies you made so you can always have a fairly current backup....
