I always watch the F1 races on tv. You often see cars right up with each
other, like 0.9 - 1.3 seconds apart. Whenever I am on indycar i always
manage to either be a long way behind a car or much further ahead. I can
never be behind a car, close up, for very long. I also never get other
cars right up on my rear wing for very long either. Will GP2 be more
realistic and I be right up battling close with other cars?

strength near your own level of ability. I have experienced many
enjoyable laps wheel to wheel or nose cone to gear box when the opponent
level was set correctly for me. You can usually tell if you have it set
correctly by your qualifying times. If you are qualifying more than
about a half a second faster than anyone else, it will probably be a
dull race, and vice versa, as you'll likely never get a chance to catch
the front runners.

One word - NASCAR.

Keep practicing.  You'll get there.

F1GP (the original) does this too.  YOu can scream right up to the rear
of another car and sit there if you want.  When you get so close you
start to draft him and your revs will shoot up and then you can
sling-shot past the car.  I've tried this in ICR and it just doesn't
work.  Ok maybe it works but it's a lot harder to do because the car
isn't as responisive as in F1GP.  It feels like it's "sloshing" around.

Ya, I wouldn't say it is ICR2's fault that the original poster is
finding too big a spread between cars; when I am racing with the
competition set right at my level of ability, I am always in close
quarters. I've really been getting in to racing Portland lately; I
have to be very, very careful not to touch the other cars for most of
the race.

You might want to try another car set, also. The Drivers2.txt settings
can make a big difference in what kind of traffic you find yourself
in.
