GP2: Different cars, Different performance

by Jon Ho » Fri, 26 Jul 1996 04:00:00

Hi all

I have been playing     GP2 since last friday, and have been trying to
get the Pacific and Simtex cars a decent lap time. I can consistently
lap 1 - 2 seconds quicker than my team mate but no where near the
front runners (playing at pro level). Out of curiosity I changed to a
Benetton to see if it made any difference and with the same set up
jumped two seconds a lap faster. I couldn't find anything in the
manual to say whether choosing different cars has any effect on lap
times, but it seem strange. The only thing for me to decide is whether
I want to drive as a back marker :-).

The one major problem I am having with GP2 is the complete lack of
sensation that the wings do anything to the handling of the car.Taking
the wings to 0 allows the car to go a bit faster, but doesn't seem to
affect the handling through corners. I have managed to take the front
wings completeley off around France, and can still take some of the
"esses" without really having to back off. In GP1 I would have gone
straight ahead and plowed into the wall. Weird.

Ciao

The standard setup runs the cars at '94 levels.  Therefore a Williams
is faster than a Pacific.  GP2 calls this Opposition Spread.  Page 22
of the manual.  If find this more fun, since I have great trouble
getting a Jordan to do a lap without spinning off, whereas it is a lot
easier with a Williams.  I'm not sure if this is just me or if it is a
feature.
