Hey all,
I haven't been involved with this group lately so excuse me if this subject has
recently been asked. I am desperatly trying to find some speed at IMS. My best
lap so far is 217.556 and this was with 1 gallon of fuel and warm tires. I'm
carrying 205-210mph through turns 1 and 2, I hit the engine warning light about
2/3 down the backstraight and hit a top speed of 229-230 before my hardest
corner, turn 3. My speed through 4 is about 201-203 with a top speed of about
225 down into 1. I am running a 95 Reynard with the Mercedes engine. I'm
starting to feel like the Penske team right now, and there are no Buicks to be
found!!!
If anyone can give me setup or driving line pointers I would greatly appreciate
it. I'm scrubbing the most speed off in turn 3 in which the car is pushing
pretty badly. There is a fine line there...if I enter to late into three, it's
over-I kiss the wall. I have to enter early and then hope the car doesn't bite
down into the rumble strips and catch some grass. With the setup I'm using I can
go flat out all the way around. Are those who are going quicker than this
lifting in the corners. Please help if you can....I don't want to be in the
pits on race day!!!!
By the way, I was at the track yesterday and got to see the track from the
suites. It was pretty suite(sweet)!! Herta took a *** hit in turn two. I
have never lost it through that short shoot like he did. My only problem with
two is the Mansell effect of not keeping the wheel turned long enough and
pancaking the right side on the exit.
Please respond and tell me how you guys drive the brickyard!!!
By the way, I talked to Buddy Lazier last Friday for about 15 minutes in the
garage area. I don't think anybody else knew who he was. He was really pumped
up about a possible qualifying attempt in a 95 Menard. I guess his wish came
true on Sunday...226 mph solidly in the field.
Thanks,

P.S. Does the rest of the country get nightly updates from the track like we do
here in Indiana? I don't know what I would do without my daily dose of the Daly
News(Derek is here reporting for a local news sports team).
