Jeez, wheel is much faster than joystick

I've been hooked by the N4 demo and was using my joystick fairly
successfully with it, least I thought I was. How naive I was. I got a
wheel and have seen the true light. Perhaps there are some racing
protgs out there that can tear up a track with a joystick but for most
mortals to get great lap times a wheel is where its at. After 40 laps or
so and a bit of controller tweaking I easily beat my joystick lap times
by .2 sec. Still have a ways to go but I'm down to 38.2's now. :)

The wheel I have is borrowed (its a Thrustmaster GrandPrix1 with
brake/gas paddles on the wheel) and will need to buy my own.  I don't
need or want force feedback. Any recommendations for a wheel that works
well and is under say $60?

For $60 you can't go wrong with the TM Pro Digital 2.

That is strange.  For me, I got better lap times with my Gravis
Xterminator gamepad.  I'm just not going as fast with a wheel setup.
Plus a wheel doesn't let me do the quick turns like a gamepad.  But I
want realism when I'm playing racing games so I definitely prefer the
wheel.  It's more fun.

I got the MS Sidewinder Racing Wheel.  Got it for $69CAN after rebate.
That's like $45-50US.  The Act Labs RS looks good.  And you can buy
the wicked shifter for it too.  I was leaning towards the Thrustmaster
Nascar Pro Digital 2 but it took up too much room so I went with the
MS.  Get like a cheap $10 joystick and use it as the gearshift and
you're set.

Yes you do! Let me tell you my little FF story with N4. With the TM NasPro
Digital2 I was running 182's and 183's with the setup off of
precision-racing.com. I said, God only knows how the guys at that site could
run 185 there. Well, I decided to put on my Logitech Wingman Formula Force
USB wheel and I went out with the same setup and ran a 185 on lap 3. LOL!
Then I said, let's go to the garage and I might can get a little more out of
it seeing it was a little loose for me. Well, I went into the garage and
come to find out I was running the default setup that came with the demo.
LOL! Get FF! If you HAVE to buy a wheel for less than $60 you should go with
the TM Nascar Pro Digital 2. Love it for the older games but not GPL and
definitelty not for N4 now!

I just replaced my aging TM wheel with a Logitech Wingman Formula GP
(non-FF) that I bought at Office Depot for $50. Works great!

I've been very happy with my Logitech Wingman Formula (non-FF, I
believe it has a new name now but is essentially the same - it's the
yellow one, not red). Having never used another wheel I don't know how
it compares to the high end models, but I can't afford them and this
thing suits me just fine.

If u use a gamepad u should just use the keyboard. Both are digital and i
feel they are useless.

Not the Gravis Xterminator.  It has an analog joystick and a few more
analog buttons that can be used for gas and brake.  It's got tons of
digital buttons and a digital directional pad too.
