Who will win?

No doubt this year's championship is almost impossible to predict, as it
seems to be a three-way battle between Montoya, Raikonnen, and M.
Schumacher. However, don't keep your eyes that focused, because R.
Schumacher and Barrichello are not at all far behind, and slim as it may be,
still have a shot at the title. If anything, Hockenheim proved to everyone
just how things can change in a matter of seconds and nothing is for certain
yet.

In the current www.planetf1.com poll "Who will win the championship?" I am
pleased (and amused) to see Kimi Raikonnen on 35%, Juan Pablo Montoya on
33%, and M. Schumacher on 31% with a 2% thrown in for Ralf.

If I were to choose who takes the championship, I'd hope Barrichello pulls
through. Realistically, I think M. Schumacher or Montoya will win the title,
and I have reasons to like both (I'd love to see a record 6th title for
Michael and I'd be pleased for Williams to win it, because I like the team
for being a competitive non-tobacco team). What's the opinion of everyone
else at this moment?

Remember, anything can still happen :)

Cheers,
J.R.

I think monty will win. He does have a habit of throwing away races but
considering how much better michelins are compared to the awful bridgestones
i dont think ferrari has a chance

As a Montoya fan I would still say that I think Michael will win it.
JPM has made a few silly spins and mistakes this season and could
easily repeat one or two in the next four races.  Michael has plenty
of experience with high pressure races and I think he has the ability
and guile to do the job.  Even so, JPM would have to be very unlucky
and Michael at the top of his game to get the job done.

I'd like to see the 6th title as well.  But, I like JPM better as a driver, and
I'd like to see Kimi do well also.

Two things come to mind:

1) Schumacher has been there before (many times)

2) Ferrari reliability

Edge goes to Schumacher.

I'd love to see Kimi win this year, but I do think MS will pull it off. He
is very cool under pressure, way more so than Kimi anyways. I'm not a HUGE
fan of anyone specific though

I would have to give the edge to M. Schumacher since JPM may still be
suffering from lingering after effects from his "broken head". ;)

Are there sports, on an international level, that have more fanatical
followers than soccer and formula one?  I'm talking about
rioting/looting/pillaging/celebrating based on results here...

Uhhhhh Bruce, I say one doesn't go without the order.  'Cause there is ain't
much "entertainment" value outside of who will be the World Champion.

Two past situations which I can re-call with the utmost clarity.
I'm sure that what applied then does so today:-

1) Any Tasman Cup/AGP or whatever meeting circa 1965/66/67 at Warwick Farm,
Sydney.
For self and a dozen or so mates the racing was secondary to the day's main
entertainment which was getting sozzled, chatting-up birds and loudly
cheering the "Creek Corner Lone Trumpeter" who sounded the Last Post every
time someone lost it under braking.
Don't ask me who won; without looking it up I wouldn't have a clue!

2) The Bathurst 500/1000, any year from 1968 to 1973.
The entire day spent with thirty or so other people at a mate's home, with
three television sets, a dozen cartons of beer and multiple bar-b-queue's,
barracking for either cue's (the couple of years that the Big Three + Others
were involved) or Ford or Holden. Which driver won was immaterial and really
not known until checking the papers the next day as we were all pissed
before the race was half over anyway!

It was the socialising that we were mainly interested in; the racing was an
excuse to get together and have a booze-up. :)

You cannot tell me that such a thing is not common these days!

Stupid spell-check....!!

In (2), what reads.......
"...multiple bar-b-queue's, barracking for either cue's ...."
Should read.........
".....multiple bar-b-cue's, barracking for either Chrysler......"
