I don't know anything about the latest F1 games which I am assuming are
F1 by psygnosis and F1RS by Ubisoft. Which one is better? Is either
one remotely a simulator as in depth as GP2?

The 2 to compare are:
Formula 1 by Psygnosis
F1RS (Formula 1 Racing Simulation) by Ubisoft
Formula 1 is basically an arcade racer, the car damage is very limited
(basically either it is or it isnt - no specifics), the cars are
"glued" to the track, meaning they dont go airborne no matter how fast
and careless you drive. The graphics are great, but the framerate can
get a little choppy also. There is no***pit view, a few others
though, but nothing that actually shows the***pit while driving.
F1RS is (as the name states) a simulation of Formula 1.
It is fantastic, and can definetely compare to GP2. Some have stated
that GP2 is better, others have given F1RS the title, but I think it's
safe to say that hardly anyone dislikes this game.
The graphics are great, 3D accelerated - especially with a 3Dfx card.
The minimum requirements are a P120 with a Direct3D acellerator, and
the recommended is a P166 with a 3Dfx card.
There is a***pit view in this game, and it looks great and is
informative.
You can read a review as well as viewing some screenshots and some
links at www.f1racingsim.com.
I would highly recommend this game, buy you have to order it from
Ubisoft, or some other retail outlet that offers imports. It wont be
released in North America on a retail level until March '98.
Hope this helps.
Marc.
