GP3 FLYER ON REC.AUTOS.SIMULATORS

Thank you very much for taking the time to scan/upload it.

It looks like GP3 will have multiplayer LAN racing for only 2-4 drivers.
C'mon Geoff, you are the leading person with David Kaemmer in pushing the
racing simulation technology.  Look at David, in the time you took develop
Gp3, he fully rebuild a completely new game engine that has the most
potential of any game engine in the history.  Where is it in GP3, after
4years of development?  It will sell like pancakes, and that's the
unfortunate considering that it's just Gp2 in 3d, which even if excellent is
not up to the standard of Geoff Crammond products, imho.  Gp2 was far more
than "F1GP with textures".   :(

Yes Im whining, but Im very disappointed in how small the work (even is
considerate) was given to GP3 after all those years.  Remember he started
working on GP3 a month after GP2 got released (he said that in an
interview).

Well, just don't buy the game then. I don't get it - he doesnt owe anyone
anything at all. So what's the point?

I hesitate to comment on a product that I have yet to try out but from the
information I've digested and going on the assumption that what has been
reported is true... GP3 is <will be> a major disappointment to me, the lack
of multiplayer support <didn't they try to blame that on Bernie at one
point?> and different car models <in an F1 simulator ;-) are just two of the
glaring omissions that plague this title. I find it hard to believe it took
this long for so few improvements.

It appears the simulation bar that was raised some 18 months ago will stand
for awhile longer. It wouldn't surprise me if the West's "WSC" turned into
"Beverly Hillbilly's go to Europe" upon release....with multiplayer support
of course ;-)

I have actually had a spare 20 minutes and have scanned the whole Ofiicial
Grand Prix 3 Programme / brochure / flyer.

It is a 6 page spread which folds out (3 pages wide A4)

I have posted it on the :

alt.binaries.simulators

newsgroup.

You are MORE than welcome to post it anywhere on sites etc...

Just please give credit where it is due  :-)

What makes you think that GP3 will be only GP2 with 3D graphics added???

It will have weather effects, improved physics, a great car model (just
one, sadly). This missing internet multiplayer thing really makes you
angry, doesn't it? ;^)

I am beginning to believe it is impossible to reason against the "it's by
Crammond, so it is great" attitude.

As far as I can tell at the moment, GP3 will not advance simracing. Which is
below par for a Crammond game, end of story.

Because of Geoff's *** heritage, I am willing to cut him some slack and
try the game. Going by the feature list and the (scary) picture I have of
the system requirements alone, I would dismiss it.

Exactly. You are only as good as your last score - so they say in many
sports.

You could also say, besides the great driving feel etc, that if its by
Crammond the multi-play stinks.

As brillant as he has been in most respects his muti-player code has
stunk from GP1 on. Maybe its something he's just not good at or
doesn't believe is an issue to spend much effort on.

Seems like this may be the case. Pity.

Some are easierly impressed it seems to me. You show them some
graphics that are at best just par for the current course and they go
on about it like its Leonardi Di Vinci. Some seem to have a great deal
of trouble simpy looking at a new thing objectively - disregarding
expectations and reputations.

Its like the shower singer who, in their mind, hear this wonderfull
voice coming out of their month that's in perfect tune and tempo. But
if they just drop the preconceptions they're holding in their mind,
and listen to the actual sound they're making - well they might just
pick up a descrpency. :)

And of course some use supperlatives so often about so many things,
their reports about anything cease to be worth reading any more.

it's exatcly what I've beent thinking ymenard... it's practicaly Grand Prix

internet play.

Your right guys, you should leave this stinking pile of poo alone. I
mean if it fails to live up to your expectations (even if none of you
have actually played it) it must be hopeless.  So don't buy it, in
fact actively try to discourage others from buying it and we'll really
help the cause of sim racing.

GP3 FLYER ON REC.AUTOS.SIMULATORS

I was quite cynical about GP3 too, until I saw the 38meg movie. Damn
what a surprise that was, it looked so beautiful.
GP2 is imho the ONLY f1 sim that has a decent physics model,
especially for the time of it's release. But the slowmo problem was
too big for me, that was the only reason I didn't play it so often.
Now that I've finally got a machine that can run it, I don't play it
cause it really looks outdated.

If GP3 has the same driving model as GP2 (but I'm sure it has been
improved here and there), if the only new features would be improved
graphics and force feedback, I'd still be the first in line to buy it!

Come on guys, there is no decent F1 sim except for GP2, it would be
great to have a GP2 with improved graphics and without the slowmo
problem. And I'm sure it will be improved on lots of ways, not only
the graphics, so it surely won't be a disappointment for me.

Being cynical and critical is good, we've been fooled more than often
(SoS '37, Lemans 24 hours, and I even dare say Nascar 3, which didn't
feature the GPL model as first was said), but I simply can't imagine
that GP3 will be a disappointment.

GP3 FLYER ON REC.AUTOS.SIMULATORS

by Gavin Thoma » Sun, 12 Mar 2000 04:00:00

The thing is, none of us can definitatly say what it's going to be like.
Even your analogy does have its failings.
Consider :-
    Star Wars - Excellent
    Empire Strikes Back - Excellent
    ROTJ - Pretty good.
...
Episode 1 - Should have been kick arse, but it was a disappointment
(good, but not as good as we hoped).

Well, GP3 is the same. Who knows though. It may be brilliant, it may not be
the advance we hoped for. We only truly find out when it officially
released, and then its highly subjective on the person playing it.

My personally gut feeling on what I've read is that it will be a bit of a
dissappointment. I don't like the idea that changing your team for your
player has no effect on car performance, i.e theorectically, you can drive
just as fast in a Minardi as in a Ferrari, you just get a different paint
scheme. Only the computer cars have different performance. Thats one of the
great things about GPL. You can challange yourself by driving the BRM or
something against your mates in Loti and Ferrari's

But I'm perfectly willing to change my opinion why I have a go of the real
thing. Lets just hope that some of the fears raised by some people don't
happen.

Well it sort of was.....

.... ever turned all textures off in GP2? Its F1gp all voer again, so in
looks hats the same sort of thing as ging fomr GP2 to GP3, also th physics
are a little better and we're getting rain back and one hell of a lot of
rain, stooping and going dry line,

Forget Dave's "intentions" Geofff has done it! GP3 can't be all bad.
