N3 league Needed - Badly

by Greg W. Evan » Sat, 05 Feb 2000 04:00:00

I have come to the conclusion after several week of net racing that I will
not be able to fully enjoy N3 unless I am able to find a good league to
join.

I have enjoyed many of the "pick up races" that I have been involved in and
have a few people that I look for when browsing the servers as I know them
to have good pings and to be sportsman like competitors.  Tonight it was a
madhouse in there.  Once I could find a good host connection, it invariably
turned out to be a no damage race more akin to a demo derby, or there was
one bad apple in a damage race hell bent on taking everyone out.

Can anyone recommend a good league that is actively seeking participants.  I
have yet to taste the competition associated with a 40-50% race with flags,
pace lap, and pit stops....THAT IS WHAT I CRAVE.

I have corresponded with a group, but evidently the use of the latest BETA
version of N3 is required in order to race with them.  I would prefer to use
the latest official release.

Check out - http://blitzsports.com/racing/leagues/nsrl/index.html .  From my
experience, seems to be fairly good and competitive league.

Greg,

You will have trouble finding a league that's not using the beta patch for
N3.  This is for several reasons.... one is that the beta patch truly
reduces warping and clock zaps, and the other ( a REAL biggie) is that the
patch provides the admins to use "remote servers", so that we can host races
on remote (high speed) servers while controlling the event from home.

I am the admin of the Western States Racing League, and yes, patch 1104 if
required to race in the league.  None of my guys (38 members) have any
trouble with the patch.

We are not adding new members until after the current seasons end, which
will be in early March.  I already have 10 guys on a waiting list for the
next WSRL seasons, so if you are interested in joining, I recommend
e-mailing me as soon as possible.-

Paul,

Thanks for your reply.  Quick question, does the patch 1104 prevent me from
joining won.net games that are not patched?

Greg,

If you are using the beta 1104 patch, you can race through WON with others
who are also patched.  You will not be able to join races that are hosted on
retail N3.  For the best of both worlds, it's a very simple process to
"un-patch" back to retail, race on WON (If you want), and then install the
patch again for league races.  More and more guys on WON are running the
patch, so you will probably find enough open races anyway, without
"un-patching".

Of course when you get into a league, you kinda forget that WON open races
even exist.  :-)
